Sorvate C ointment is generally used to treat certain inflammatory and scaly skin conditions, most commonly plaque psoriasis. It helps reduce redness, scaling, and itching, and slows the excessive growth of skin cells. Your doctor may also prescribe it for other conditions where a combination of a vitamin D analogue and a topical corticosteroid is considered appropriate.
Sorvate C ointment usually combines calcipotriol, a vitamin D3 analogue, with a corticosteroid. Calcipotriol helps normalize the growth and maturation of skin cells, reducing thick, scaly plaques. The corticosteroid component decreases local inflammation, redness, and itching by suppressing the immune response in the skin. Together, they provide more effective control of psoriatic lesions than either component alone in many patients.
Use Sorvate C ointment exactly as directed by your dermatologist or healthcare provider. Typically, a thin layer is gently applied to clean, dry affected skin and rubbed in until absorbed, avoiding the face, eyes, mouth, and mucous membranes. Do not cover the treated area with airtight dressings unless your doctor specifically instructs you to do so. Do not exceed the prescribed frequency or duration of use.
Safety data for Sorvate C ointment in pregnancy are limited. Topical corticosteroids and vitamin D analogues are generally used with caution in pregnant women, and only if the potential benefit justifies any possible risk to the fetus. If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or think you might be pregnant, discuss the use of Sorvate C ointment with your doctor before starting or continuing treatment.
During breastfeeding, Sorvate C ointment should be used only on the advice of a healthcare professional. It should not be applied to the breasts or areas that might come into direct contact with the infant’s skin or mouth, to avoid accidental ingestion or exposure. If you are breastfeeding, inform your doctor so that the risks and benefits of treatment can be carefully weighed.
Sorvate C ointment is applied to the skin and has minimal systemic absorption when used correctly, so no direct interaction with alcohol is expected. However, excessive alcohol intake may worsen some skin conditions and overall health. It is advisable to drink alcohol in moderation and follow your doctor’s general health recommendations while on treatment.
Because calcipotriol is related to vitamin D and can, in rare cases, influence calcium metabolism, caution is advised in patients with significant liver or kidney impairment. Systemic absorption from topical use is usually low, but it may increase if large body areas are treated or if the skin barrier is damaged. If you have liver or kidney disease, inform your doctor before using Sorvate C ointment so that the treatment area, duration, and monitoring can be adjusted appropriately.
If you have a known allergy to calcipotriol, corticosteroids, or any of the excipients in the ointment, you should not use Sorvate C ointment. People with very sensitive skin may experience irritation, burning, or redness, especially at the start of therapy. If you notice severe irritation, rash, swelling, or worsening of your skin condition, stop using the ointment and contact your doctor promptly.
Sorvate C ointment is a topical medication and is not expected to affect alertness, coordination, or vision when used as directed. It should not impair your ability to drive or operate machinery. If you experience any unexpected systemic symptoms such as dizziness or visual disturbances, consult your doctor and avoid driving until you feel well again.
Sorvate C ointment is generally not recommended for use on the face, around the eyes, or on very thin or sensitive skin unless specifically instructed by a dermatologist. The facial skin is more prone to side effects from topical steroids, such as thinning, visible blood vessels, or perioral dermatitis. If accidental contact with the eyes occurs, rinse thoroughly with plenty of water and seek medical advice if irritation persists.
If you forget to apply Sorvate C ointment at your usual time, apply it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next scheduled application. In that case, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not apply extra ointment to make up for a missed application, as overuse may increase the risk of side effects without improving effectiveness.
