• SURVANTA (beractant) Intratracheal Suspension is administered intratracheally. It is vital that SURVANTA be administered by trained medical personnel experienced in neonatal intensive care. Before administering SURVANTA, ensure proper placement of the endotracheal tube. The infant should be stable before administering the injection.
• Dosage is 4 mL/kg birth weight. Each dose is divided into four quarter-doses. The infant should be positioned differently for each quarter-dose to maximize distribution of SURVANTA within the lungs. Suction the infant before administration. Allow the infant to stabilize before proceeding. After the dose, avoid suctioning for 1 hour unless signs of significant airway obstruction occur.
• Administration procedure: Verify the dose calculation. Withdraw the entire contents of the vial into a syringe through a large-gauge needle (e.g., 20 gauge or larger). Avoid excessive shaking. Reposition the infant and administer the next quarter-dose similarly. Continue this process until all four quarter-doses have been administered. During administration, heart rate, color, and chest expansion should be monitored.
• If bradycardia or oxygen desaturation occurs during the dosing, stop administration and initiate appropriate measures to stabilize the infant. After the complete dose, resume usual ventilator management and monitoring.
• Repeat doses: SURVANTA can be re-administered up to three doses in the first 24 hours, no more than 6 hours apart. The procedure for repeat doses is the same as for the initial dose. Each dose is also 4 mL/kg.
