Multiple myeloma affects the plasma cells, which are found in the bone marrow.
How TECVAYLI works is quite clever. It acts like a bridge, connecting your body's own immune cells (specifically T cells) to the cancer cells (myeloma cells). It does this by attaching to two different targets at the same time: one target called BCMA which is found on the myeloma cells, and another target called CD3 which is found on your T cells. By bringing these cells together, TECVAYLI activates your T cells to recognize and destroy the myeloma cells that have BCMA on them.
