Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them.

Allergies
Contraindicated in hypersensitivityTenovate cream should not be used by individuals with a known allergy or hypersensitivity to clobetasol, other corticosteroids, or any of the excipients in the formulation.
No, TENOVATE OINTMENT 15 GM should not be used for a long time. The doctor generally prescribes it for 2 consecutive weeks only. However, the treatment can be longer for chronic (long-term) inflammatory conditions. Consult your physician before using this medication.
Severe skin reactions are quite rare with TENOVATE OINTMENT 15 GM. TENOVATE OINTMENT 15 GM is an anti-inflammatory drug which is used to treat skin diseases, skin reactions and eczemas. However, skin reactions can occur in a person who is hypersensitive to TENOVATE OINTMENT 15 GM. It is important to leave the affected area open after applying TENOVATE OINTMENT 15 GM as using occlusive dressings (air- and water-tight dressing) can lead to skin reactions. The medicine may not itself cause a reaction but the added excipients with the medications can lead to a reaction in some cases. Inform your doctor immediately in case you encounter any skin reactions.
No, TENOVATE OINTMENT 15 GM should not be used on the face. In addition to this, TENOVATE OINTMENT 15 GM should also not be used on the axillae (armpits), groin, and if there is atrophy (wasting away of tissues) at the treatment site. In certain circumstances, it can be exceptionally considered to be used by doctors. It should be used only after consultation with your physician and if possible, the application on the face should be limited to a maximum of 5 days.
TENOVATE OINTMENT 15 GM is not recommended for use in children less than 1 year of age. It is also not recommended for use in older children and adolescents as the side effects are more common in them. In the pediatric population, there is an increased risk of suppression of the immune system which may make the child prone to other diseases and atrophic changes, hence it is not recommended. Still, in some rare cases, the doctor may recommend this medicine, but the treatment is usually limited to 5 days and the therapy is reviewed weekly.
TENOVATE OINTMENT 15 GM is not an antimicrobial or antifungal agent. It is a steroid medication. It should not be used in infections as being a corticosteroid, it suppresses the immune system and increases the risk of infections. Bacterial infections are prone to worsen if the infection is covered with a dressing after using TENOVATE OINTMENT 15 GM. In case the inflammatory lesions get infected or there is any spread of infection, consult your doctor immediately. The doctor will withdraw the use of TENOVATE OINTMENT 15 GM and provide appropriate antimicrobial therapy.
No, do not stop taking TENOVATE OINTMENT 15 GM and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Your symptoms may improve before your treatment is complete. Stopping TENOVATE OINTMENT 15 GM before your treatment is completed can bring back your symptoms.
Local skin reactions are quite rare with TENOVATE OINTMENT 15 GM. Being an anti-inflammatory drug, it is used to treat skin diseases, skin reactions, and eczemas. Still, skin reactions can occur in a person who is hypersensitive to TENOVATE OINTMENT 15 GM. It is important to leave the affected area open after applying TENOVATE OINTMENT 15 GM as using occlusive dressings (air- and water-tight dressing) can lead to skin reactions. If not by the medicine itself, sometimes the reactions are also caused by the added excipients with the medications. Inform your doctor immediately in case you encounter any skin reactions.
Tenovate cream is a potent topical corticosteroid used to treat inflammatory skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, lichen planus, and other steroid-responsive dermatoses. It helps reduce redness, itching, and swelling when milder corticosteroids are not effective.
Use Tenovate cream exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Apply a thin layer to the affected skin and gently rub it in until absorbed. Do not apply to broken skin, eyes, mouth, or inside the nose. Do not cover the treated area with airtight dressings unless your doctor specifically tells you to. Do not exceed the prescribed frequency or duration of use.
Tenovate cream is generally not recommended for use on the face because facial skin is thin and more prone to side effects such as skin thinning, visible blood vessels, and perioral dermatitis. Use on the face only if specifically prescribed by a dermatologist and strictly follow the duration and instructions given.
Potent topical steroids like Tenovate cream should be used with caution during pregnancy. They are usually considered only if the potential benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus, and then for the shortest possible duration and on the smallest area of skin. Pregnant women should not use Tenovate cream without medical advice and should inform their doctor about their pregnancy or plans to conceive.
During breastfeeding, Tenovate cream may be used with caution under medical supervision. It should not be applied on or near the nipples or areas that may come into direct contact with the infant’s mouth or skin. Systemic absorption is usually low when used correctly, but prolonged or extensive use should be avoided. Always consult your doctor before using this medicine while breastfeeding.
Children are more sensitive to the side effects of potent topical steroids, including possible suppression of adrenal gland function and growth effects. Tenovate cream should only be used in children if prescribed by a specialist, in the lowest effective strength, on limited areas, and for the shortest possible time. It should not be used under nappies or occlusive dressings unless specifically instructed.
There is no direct interaction known between topical Tenovate cream and alcohol when used on the skin as directed. However, excessive alcohol intake can worsen some skin conditions and overall health. It is advisable to follow general health recommendations regarding alcohol consumption and to discuss any concerns with your healthcare provider.
Tenovate cream is applied to the skin and is not expected to affect alertness, coordination, or the ability to drive or operate machinery when used as directed. If you experience unexpected systemic side effects such as severe dizziness or visual disturbances, seek medical advice and avoid driving until you feel well.
If you have a known allergy to clobetasol, other corticosteroids, or any ingredient in Tenovate cream, you should not use this medicine. Signs of an allergic reaction may include worsening redness, itching, swelling, blistering, or rash at the application site. Stop using the cream immediately and contact your doctor if you suspect an allergic reaction. In case of severe symptoms such as difficulty breathing or swelling of the face or throat, seek emergency medical help.
When used correctly on limited skin areas and for short periods, systemic absorption of Tenovate cream is usually low. However, in people with severe liver or kidney impairment, any absorbed steroid may be cleared more slowly, potentially increasing the risk of systemic side effects. If you have liver or kidney disease, inform your doctor before using Tenovate cream. Your doctor may recommend closer monitoring, limiting the treated area, or choosing an alternative therapy.
Tenovate cream should not be used on untreated bacterial, fungal, or viral skin infections, or on acne, rosacea, or perioral dermatitis, because it can worsen these conditions or mask signs of infection. If an infection is present, your doctor may prescribe appropriate antimicrobial treatment and will decide whether a steroid is appropriate. Do not self-treat infected or acne-prone skin with Tenovate cream.
