How THROMBOTAS OINTMENT 20 GM Works

• Heparin sodium interferes with the coagulation cascade, mainly by enhancing the activity of antithrombin, a natural inhibitor of clotting factors. This limits the extension of an existing superficial clot and supports its gradual breakdown, which helps reduce the size of a bruise and improve local blood flow.
• Benzyl nicotinate is converted in the skin to nicotinic acid, which widens the small blood vessels in the treated area. This locally increased blood flow supports the removal of inflammatory substances and accumulated fluid, and helps deliver the heparin to the affected tissue.

Redness, itching or a burning sensation at the application site are the most commonly reported effects and are usually mild and temporary. An allergic skin reaction, including contact dermatitis, is uncommon. A widespread rash, facial swelling or breathing difficulty need immediate medical attention, since these can point to a more serious allergic reaction affecting the whole body.

• Since this medication is applied topically, the chances of missing a dose are minimal. However, if you forget to apply the ointment at the scheduled time, apply it as soon as you remember. Then, continue with your regular application schedule.

• Store the tube in its original pack, below 25°C unless the pack states otherwise, away from direct sunlight and moisture, and out of the reach of children and pets. Do not use the ointment after the expiry date printed on the pack.

• Apply a thin, even layer and massage gently until absorbed
• Avoid open wounds, broken skin and mucous membranes
• Wash hands before and after application, unless the hands are being treated
• Avoid airtight dressings over the treated area unless specifically directed by the doctor
• Seek medical advice if there is no improvement after about a week, or if the condition worsens
• Seek urgent medical help for facial swelling, breathing difficulty or a widespread rash
