When correctly dosed there are usually no side effects. Too high a dose can cause symptoms of an overactive thyroid: palpitations, a fast heartbeat, tremor, sweating, weight loss, restlessness, and difficulty sleeping. Serious (seek medical attention): chest pain or a markedly fast/irregular heartbeat. Report these so the dose can be adjusted.
Take it once a day on an empty stomach, ideally 30–60 minutes before breakfast, with water. Take it at the same time each day and stay consistent.
Avoid taking it at the same time as calcium or iron supplements, antacids, or high-fibre/soya foods, which reduce its absorption — separate them by about 4 hours.

Your doctor checks thyroid blood tests periodically to fine-tune the dose. Tell your doctor if you become pregnant, as your dose may need increasing.
