How TOUJEO 450IU INJECTION Works

• Insulin glargine forms a fine precipitate at the injection site under the skin, from which small amounts are released steadily into the bloodstream over an extended period. This gives a relatively flat, prolonged insulin profile that closely mimics the body's background insulin needs between meals and overnight.
• By providing this steady basal insulin supply, Toujeo helps move glucose from the blood into the body's cells for energy, lowering blood glucose levels throughout the day. Because it is designed for background control rather than rapid action, it is generally combined with a faster-acting insulin or other diabetes medicine to manage the rise in blood glucose that follows meals.

Low blood glucose (hypoglycaemia) is the most commonly reported effect, and can cause sweating, shakiness, hunger, confusion or a fast heartbeat. Reactions at the injection site, such as redness, swelling or itching, and weight gain have also been reported. A severe allergic reaction, such as widespread rash, facial or throat swelling, or difficulty breathing, needs immediate medical attention. Severe or prolonged low blood glucose causing confusion, seizures or loss of consciousness is a medical emergency.

• Store the injection in a refrigerator between 2°C and 8°C, and do not freeze it. Once in use, it can generally be kept at room temperature for a limited period as specified on the pack, away from direct heat and sunlight, and always out of the reach of children.

• Inject at the same time each day and rotate the injection site within the area advised
• Always carry a fast-acting source of sugar in case of low blood glucose
• Do not switch to a different insulin product or strength without medical guidance
• Monitor blood glucose as advised, especially during illness, travel or changes in activity or diet
• Do not inject into a vein or muscle, and do not mix this insulin with any other insulin
• Seek urgent medical help for confusion, seizures, loss of consciousness, or signs of a severe allergic reaction

• Meal timing and carbohydrate intake affect blood glucose control alongside this insulin. Alcohol can increase the risk of low blood glucose and should be discussed with the prescriber.
