How TRYPTOMER 10MG TABLET 30'S Works

• Amitriptyline blocks the reuptake of serotonin and noradrenaline, chemical messengers involved in mood regulation, back into nerve cells. This raises the amount of these chemical messengers available between nerve cells, which helps lift mood over time.
• The same chemical messengers are involved in how the spinal cord and brain process pain signals, which is why amitriptyline, at a lower amount than used for depression, can reduce the pain of nerve damage and help prevent migraine attacks.
• Amitriptyline also has a sedating effect and blocks certain other receptors in the body, which contributes to some of its side effects, including dry mouth, constipation and drowsiness.

Dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision, drowsiness and weight gain are common and relate to amitriptyline's effect on receptors beyond those involved in mood. These often lessen as the body adjusts. A sudden fall in blood pressure on standing, confusion, tremor and difficulty passing urine are reported more often in older adults, who are more sensitive to amitriptyline's effects. A change in heart rhythm, chest pain, fainting or severe dizziness needs prompt medical assessment, particularly at higher amounts or in anyone with existing heart disease. Any new or worsening low mood, agitation or thoughts of self-harm, especially in the first weeks of treatment or after a change in amount, should be reported to the prescriber immediately.

• Store the tablets in their original pack, out of the reach of children and pets. Keep them at room temperature as stated on the current Dr Reddy's pack. Do not use the tablets after the expiry date printed on the pack.

• Take the tablet at a similar time each day, as directed by the prescriber
• Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without medical advice
• Full benefit for depression can take several weeks. Continue as prescribed even if improvement is not immediate
• Avoid driving or operating machinery until the effect of the medicine is known
• Avoid alcohol while taking this medicine
• Rise slowly from sitting or lying down to reduce dizziness from a drop in blood pressure
• Report any new or worsening low mood, agitation or thoughts of self-harm to the prescriber immediately

• Tryptomer can be taken with or without food.
• Alcohol adds to the drowsiness caused by amitriptyline and is best avoided while taking this medicine.
