How TUSPEL PLUS EXPECTORANT 100ML Works

• Terbutaline stimulates beta-2 receptors on the muscle around the airways, which relaxes the muscle and widens the airways. This eases wheeze and makes it easier to cough mucus up.
• Bromhexine breaks down the fibres that make mucus thick and sticky, so the mucus becomes thinner. Ammonium chloride mildly irritates the stomach lining, which triggers a reflex increase in watery airway secretions and loosens phlegm. Menthol stimulates cold receptors in the throat and nose, giving a feeling of easier breathing.

Terbutaline commonly causes a fine tremor of the hands, a fast heartbeat or palpitations, headache, nervousness, restlessness and muscle cramps. It can lower blood potassium and raise blood sugar. Bromhexine can cause nausea, stomach upset, indigestion and diarrhoea. Ammonium chloride can cause nausea and vomiting. Bromhexine has been linked to severe allergic reactions and serious skin reactions such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome, though these are rare. The syrup should be stopped at once, and urgent medical help sought, for any spreading rash, blistering, skin peeling, mouth sores, swelling of the face or throat, or difficulty breathing. Chest pain or an irregular heartbeat also needs urgent attention.

• If you miss a dose of TUSPEL PLUS EXPECTORANT 100ML, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.

• Keep the bottle tightly closed in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, and follow the storage instruction printed on the current Indoco pack. Keep it out of the reach of children, and do not use it after the expiry date.

• Measure each dose with the device provided
• Drink plenty of fluids to help loosen mucus
• Do not take it with another cough syrup unless the doctor advises
• Stop it and seek help for any spreading rash or blistering
• See a doctor if the cough lasts more than three weeks or there is blood
• Keep using prescribed inhalers

• No specific food interaction is known. Large amounts of tea, coffee and energy drinks can add to terbutaline's tremor and fast heartbeat. Warm fluids can help soothe the throat.
