How TUSQ DX DT TABLET 10'S Works

• Dextromethorphan raises the threshold of the cough centre in the brain, which reduces the urge to cough without acting on the airway itself. It has no expectorant action and is intended for a dry cough, not one that brings up mucus.
• Chlorpheniramine maleate blocks histamine receptors. Histamine is released during an allergic reaction and produces sneezing, a runny nose, watery eyes and itching, so blocking its action settles these symptoms. The same blocking action commonly causes drowsiness.
• Phenylephrine hydrochloride narrows the blood vessels lining the nose. Cold and allergy symptoms swell these blood vessels, which blocks the airway, and narrowing them again reduces the swelling and makes breathing through the nose easier. Phenylephrine can also raise blood pressure and heart rate in some patients, which is why it needs caution in anyone with heart disease or high blood pressure.

Chlorpheniramine commonly causes drowsiness and a dry mouth. Dextromethorphan can cause dizziness or nausea, particularly if more than the prescribed amount is taken. Phenylephrine can cause nervousness, restlessness, insomnia, or a rise in heart rate and blood pressure in some patients. Rash, swelling of the face or throat, or difficulty breathing are signs of an allergic reaction and need immediate medical attention. Yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, marked confusion, or a fast or irregular heartbeat should also be reported without delay.

• Skin rash or itching

• If you miss a dose of TUSQ DX DT TABLET 10'S, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.

• Store the tablets in their original pack, protected from light and moisture, and out of the reach of children and pets. Keep them at the temperature stated on the current Blue Cross pack. Do not use the tablets after the expiry date printed on the pack.

• Let the tablet dissolve fully in the mouth rather than swallowing it whole
• Do not give this medicine to a child below four years of age
• This tablet is for a dry cough. A cough bringing up mucus should be checked by a doctor
• Tell the prescriber about high blood pressure, heart disease, an overactive thyroid, glaucoma, prostate enlargement or a respiratory condition before starting
• Tell the prescriber about any antidepressant in use, because of the serotonin syndrome risk with dextromethorphan
• Avoid driving or operating machinery until the effect of the medicine is known
• Seek urgent medical help for rash, facial swelling, breathing difficulty or unusual drowsiness

• Tusq DX DT can be taken with or without food, though taking it with food can help if it upsets the stomach.
• Alcohol adds to the drowsiness caused by chlorpheniramine and dextromethorphan and is best avoided while taking this medicine.
