After ingestion, VALCIVIR 500MG TABLET 3'S is rapidly converted into acyclovir by the action of enzymes in the body. Acyclovir works by selectively inhibiting the replication of viral DNA through competitive inhibition of viral DNA polymerase. It is phosphorylated intracellularly by viral thymidine kinase, which allows it to be incorporated into the growing viral DNA chain. This incorporation results in chain termination and prevents further elongation of the viral DNA, thus inhibiting viral replication.
