How VIZYLAC FEM CAPSULE 10'S Works

• Lactic acid bacillus produces lactic acid as it grows. Lactic acid lowers the pH of its surroundings, and many organisms that cause vaginal and gut infections grow poorly in acidic conditions.
• Probiotic bacteria also compete with less helpful organisms for space and for the nutrients both need, which limits how far those organisms can multiply.
• The effect lasts while the capsules are being taken and for a period afterwards. Probiotic organisms do not permanently replace the body's own bacterial population.

Vizylac Fem is generally well tolerated. Wind, bloating and mild stomach discomfort are the effects reported most often, usually in the first few days, and they normally settle as the gut adjusts. Because the capsule contains live organisms, there is a small risk of serious infection in people whose immune defences are markedly weakened. This applies to patients on intensive chemotherapy, transplant recipients on high-dose immunosuppressants, people with advanced HIV infection, critically ill patients and those with a central venous catheter. Anyone in these groups needs medical supervision before taking a probiotic. Vaginal symptoms need a diagnosis. Itching, burning, an unusual discharge, an unusual odour, pain when passing urine, pain during sex, pelvic pain, fever or bleeding between periods should be assessed by a doctor. Bacterial vaginosis, thrush and sexually transmitted infections produce overlapping symptoms and need different treatments, and untreated infection can lead to complications. A rash, itching or swelling of the face or throat suggests an allergic reaction. The capsule should be stopped and medical advice sought.

• If you forget to take a dose of VIZYLAC FEM CAPSULE 10'S, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed one.

• Store the pack at room temperature, away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture, and keep it out of the reach of children and pets. Heat and damp shorten the life of the live organisms, so a bathroom cabinet is not a suitable place. Leave the capsules in their original pack and check the expiry date before use.

• Swallow the capsule whole with water, and take it with or just after food
• This is an oral capsule and is not to be inserted vaginally
• Space the capsule a few hours away from any antibiotic, and ask the pharmacist for the right gap
• See a doctor for itching, burning, unusual discharge or odour, since these need a diagnosis
• Complete any antibiotic or antifungal treatment the doctor has prescribed
• Tell the doctor about any condition or treatment that weakens the immune system before starting
• Store the pack away from heat and moisture, which shorten the life of the live organisms
• Check the expiry date, since the count of live organisms falls over time

• The capsule can be taken with or without food. Taking it with or just after a meal reduces the wind and fullness some women notice in the first few days.
• Fibre from fruit, vegetables and whole grains feeds the bacteria already present in the gut and works alongside a probiotic.
• Alcohol and hot drinks taken at the same time as the capsule are best avoided, since heat and alcohol reduce the number of organisms that survive to reach the gut.
