Allergies
UnsafeDo not take ZITA PLUS R 10/100MG TABLET if you are allergic to any of its components.
It is used to lower blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is often prescribed when diet and exercise alone are not enough, or when other medications are not effectively controlling blood sugar.
It contains Sitagliptin and Metformin. Sitagliptin works by increasing the levels of natural substances called incretins, which help to control blood sugar by increasing insulin release and decreasing glucagon secretion. Metformin works by reducing glucose production in the liver, decreasing glucose absorption from the intestines, and increasing the body's sensitivity to insulin.
Each tablet contains Sitagliptin 10mg and Metformin Hydrochloride 100mg.
Take it exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It is usually taken with food to reduce stomach upset. Swallow the tablet whole; do not crush or chew it.
Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, metallic taste in mouth, headache, and upper respiratory tract infection. These usually resolve as your body adjusts to the medicine.
Serious side effects are rare but can include pancreatitis (severe stomach pain), severe allergic reactions (rash, swelling), kidney problems, and lactic acidosis (a rare but serious buildup of lactic acid, especially in people with kidney issues). Seek immediate medical attention if you experience these.
It should not be taken by individuals with type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe kidney disease, severe liver disease, heart failure, or a history of allergic reactions to Sitagliptin or Metformin.
It is generally not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless specifically advised by a doctor, as there is limited data on its safety in these populations. Discuss with your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it's almost time for your next scheduled dose. In that case, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
An overdose can lead to severe hypoglycemia (very low blood sugar), lactic acidosis, or other serious side effects. Seek immediate medical attention or go to the nearest emergency room if you suspect an overdose.
It is generally advised to limit or avoid alcohol consumption while taking this medication, especially Metformin, as alcohol can increase the risk of lactic acidosis and may also affect blood sugar levels.
Store the tablets at room temperature, away from moisture and direct light. Keep them out of reach of children and pets. Do not use after the expiry date.
While the active ingredients (Sitagliptin and Metformin) may be the same as in other brands, the specific dosage (10mg/100mg) and formulation (e.g., extended-release Metformin, if "R" implies that) can vary. Always consult your doctor or pharmacist before switching brands or dosages.
This medication works best when combined with a healthy diet, regular exercise, and maintaining a healthy weight. Your doctor or a nutritionist can provide guidance on appropriate lifestyle modifications.
Metformin, one of the components, is often associated with stable weight or modest weight loss, unlike some other diabetes medications that can cause weight gain. Sitagliptin is generally weight-neutral. However, individual responses can vary.
Caution is advised. Metformin is primarily cleared by the kidneys, so its use is contraindicated in severe kidney impairment due to increased risk of lactic acidosis. Sitagliptin may require dose adjustment in moderate to severe kidney disease. It's crucial to inform your doctor about any kidney or liver issues you have, as dose adjustments or alternative medications may be necessary.
Lactic acidosis is a rare but serious medical emergency that can occur with Metformin use, especially in people with kidney problems, heart failure, or heavy alcohol consumption. Symptoms include unusual muscle pain, trouble breathing, stomach pain, unusual tiredness, dizziness, and feeling cold. If you experience these, seek immediate medical help.
