About ADRIPEG 50 INJECTION

  • ADRIPEG 50 INJECTION is an anticancer medication belonging to the anthracycline topoisomerase inhibitor class. Its active ingredient, doxorubicin, is encapsulated within a liposome, a closed lipid sphere coated with polyethylene glycol (PEG). This PEG coating extends the drug's circulation time in the bloodstream, facilitating targeted delivery to cancerous cells while minimizing exposure to healthy tissues. This medication is primarily used as a monotherapy for metastatic breast cancer patients with increased cardiac risk associated with conventional doxorubicin, and also for ovarian cancer and AIDS-related Kaposi’s sarcoma. Additionally, it is used in combination therapy for multiple myeloma (cancer of plasma cells, a type of white blood cell).
  • This medication is not recommended if you have known allergies to pegylated liposomal doxorubicin or any of its components. It's also contraindicated if you are allergic to products derived from peas or soy. Use in children and adolescents under 18 years of age is not advised. While it can be used in geriatric patients, dosage adjustments may be necessary based on age and body weight. Pregnant or nursing mothers should avoid using pegylated liposomal doxorubicin. Effective contraception is crucial during treatment and for at least six months following the final dose. Furthermore, ADRIPEG 50 INJECTION carries a risk of heart disease. Caution is advised for patients with a history of cardiovascular problems, and regular monitoring of cardiac function is essential throughout the therapy.
  • Before starting Liposomal Doxorubicin Injection, inform your doctor if you are taking medications for heart or liver conditions, or if you have diabetes, Kaposi’s sarcoma, or existing oral health issues. Disclose all medications you are currently taking, including herbal remedies, over-the-counter drugs, and dietary supplements. This helps your physician make informed decisions about your treatment plan. Monitoring for infusion-related reactions is also important, and premedication might be necessary in some cases to prevent or reduce these reactions. Regular blood tests are required to monitor blood cell counts, and liver and kidney function during treatment.

Uses of ADRIPEG 50 INJECTION

  • Metastatic breast cancer, a type of breast cancer that has spread to other parts of the body, such as the bones, lungs, liver, or brain.
  • Ovarian cancer, a type of cancer that begins in the ovaries. Ovaries are located in the female reproductive system and produce eggs.
  • Multiple myeloma, a type of cancer that affects plasma cells, which are a type of white blood cell that helps the body fight infection.
  • AIDS-related Kaposi's sarcoma, a type of cancer that causes lesions on the skin, in the lining of the mouth, nose, and throat, or in other organs.

Pregnancy

UNSAFE

ADRIPEG 50 INJECTION may harm the unborn baby and may cause foetal abnormalities. You need to tell your physician if you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant before taking this medicine.

Dosage of ADRIPEG 50 INJECTIONArrow

  • Your doctor will administer ADRIPEG 50 INJECTION through an intravenous infusion, directly into a vein. The infusion process can take anywhere from 30 minutes to over an hour, with the exact duration depending on factors such as the prescribed dosage and your specific medical condition. The dosage and frequency of ADRIPEG 50 INJECTION administrations are carefully determined by your physician, taking into account your individual disease condition, overall health, and other relevant factors. This medication is always administered by a qualified healthcare professional to ensure safety and effectiveness. It is crucial to understand that ADRIPEG 50 INJECTION is not intended for self-administration. Attempting to self-administer the injection could lead to serious complications. Adhering to the prescribed schedule and allowing trained medical staff to handle the administration is vital for optimal treatment outcomes. Please consult with your healthcare provider if you have any questions or concerns regarding the administration process or the medication itself.

How to store ADRIPEG 50 INJECTION?Arrow

  • Keep ADRIPEG 50MG INJ 25ML away from the reach of children and pets.
  • Store ADRIPEG 50MG INJ 25ML in a refrigerator (2 - 8°C). Do not freeze.

Benefits of ADRIPEG 50 INJECTIONArrow

  • ADRIPEG 50 INJECTION utilizes liposomes coated with polyethylene glycol (PEG) to precisely target tumors and facilitate the release of medication specifically within cancer cells. This targeted approach minimizes exposure to healthy tissues, reducing potential side effects.
  • Once inside cancer cells, the doxorubicin released from ADRIPEG 50 INJECTION acts by inserting itself into the DNA strands. This intercalation process disrupts vital cellular functions such as transcription (copying DNA into RNA) and DNA replication (duplication of DNA).
  • Doxorubicin further interferes with topoisomerase II enzymes, which play a critical role in DNA repair. By inhibiting these enzymes, ADRIPEG 50 INJECTION prevents cancer cells from repairing damaged DNA, making them more susceptible to cell death.
  • These combined actions trigger apoptosis (programmed cell death), cell cycle arrest (stopping cell division), and significant DNA damage in cancer cells, ultimately leading to their destruction.
  • Furthermore, doxorubicin generates reactive oxygen species (ROS), which increase oxidative stress within cancer cells. This heightened oxidative stress contributes to accelerated tumor cell death, enhancing the overall effectiveness of the treatment.
  • The unique formulation of ADRIPEG 50 INJECTION prolongs its circulation time in the bloodstream. This extended circulation allows for a greater opportunity for the medication to reach cancerous tissues. This preferential delivery of the drug to cancerous tissues, rather than healthy ones, is a key advantage of this liposomal formulation.

How to use ADRIPEG 50 INJECTIONArrow

  • ADRIPEG 50 INJECTION will be administered to you by a healthcare professional via intravenous infusion. This means the medication is delivered directly into your vein through a drip. The duration of the infusion can vary, typically ranging from 30 minutes to over an hour, depending on factors such as the prescribed dosage and your specific medical condition. Your doctor will determine the appropriate dose and frequency of administration based on your individual needs, considering the nature of your illness, your overall health, and other relevant factors. It's crucial to understand that ADRIPEG 50 INJECTION is not intended for self-administration. The procedure requires the expertise and supervision of trained medical personnel to ensure proper administration and to monitor for any potential side effects. The healthcare provider will carefully observe you during and after the infusion to manage any adverse reactions promptly and effectively. Always follow your doctor's instructions precisely and report any concerns or unusual symptoms to the medical staff immediately.
  • It is essential to adhere to the prescribed treatment schedule and attend all scheduled appointments for ADRIPEG 50 INJECTION infusions. Consistent adherence to the treatment plan is vital for achieving the best possible outcomes. If you have any questions or concerns about the infusion process, the medication itself, or potential side effects, don't hesitate to ask your doctor or nurse. They are there to provide you with the information and support you need throughout your treatment journey. Remember that open communication with your healthcare team is key to a successful treatment experience.
