Aristocal 500 is a calcium and vitamin D3 supplement used to support bone health and correct or prevent calcium and vitamin D deficiency. It is often recommended in people at risk of osteoporosis, postmenopausal women, older adults, and individuals with low dietary calcium intake or limited sun exposure. It may also be used as part of the management of conditions where calcium requirements are increased, as determined by a doctor.
Aristocal 500 provides elemental calcium, which is a key structural component of bones and teeth, and vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol), which enhances the absorption of calcium and phosphate from the intestine. Together, they help maintain normal bone mineralization, support muscle contraction and nerve function, and reduce the risk of bone demineralization when used appropriately under medical guidance.
Calcium carbonate, the usual form of calcium in Aristocal 500, is better absorbed when taken with food. Your doctor or pharmacist may advise taking the tablet during or immediately after a meal to improve absorption and reduce stomach discomfort. Always follow the specific instructions provided on the product label or by your healthcare professional.
You should not determine your own dose of Aristocal 500 without medical advice. The appropriate daily amount of calcium and vitamin D depends on age, diet, kidney function, existing medical conditions, and other medicines you are taking. Excessive intake can cause high blood calcium levels and other complications. Always use the dose and duration recommended by your doctor or as stated on the approved product information.
Aristocal 500 is generally well tolerated, but some people may experience gastrointestinal side effects such as constipation, bloating, gas, abdominal discomfort, or nausea. Less commonly, long‑term high intake can lead to hypercalcemia or kidney stone formation, especially in predisposed individuals. If you develop persistent stomach pain, vomiting, confusion, unusual weakness, or changes in urination, seek medical attention promptly.
Aristocal 500 can interact with several medicines. Calcium can reduce the absorption of certain antibiotics (such as tetracyclines and some fluoroquinolones), thyroid hormone replacement (levothyroxine), bisphosphonates, and some anti‑epileptic drugs if taken at the same time. Thiazide diuretics may increase the risk of high blood calcium when combined with calcium and vitamin D. Always inform your doctor and pharmacist about all medicines and supplements you use so that dosing times can be adjusted and interactions minimized.
Aristocal 500 may be used long term in people who have a sustained need for calcium and vitamin D supplementation, such as those with osteoporosis or chronic dietary deficiency, provided it is supervised by a healthcare professional. Periodic review of dietary intake, blood calcium and vitamin D levels, kidney function, and risk of kidney stones is recommended. Long‑term unsupervised use or use at higher than recommended doses is not advisable.
People with chronic kidney disease or a history of kidney stones should use Aristocal 500 only under close medical supervision. Impaired kidney function can alter calcium and vitamin D handling, increasing the risk of high blood calcium and further stone formation. Your doctor may adjust the dose, monitor blood and urine parameters, or choose an alternative regimen based on your individual risk profile.
Calcium and vitamin D are important during pregnancy and breastfeeding, but supplementation should be tailored to the individual. Aristocal 500 may be used if the expected benefit outweighs potential risks and if total daily calcium and vitamin D intake from diet and other supplements is carefully considered. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should not start or change calcium and vitamin D supplements without consulting their obstetrician or healthcare provider.
If you miss a dose of Aristocal 500, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. If it is close to the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten tablet, as this may increase the risk of side effects without providing additional benefit.
Aristocal 500 should generally be avoided in individuals with known hypercalcemia, severe hypercalciuria, certain types of kidney stones related to high calcium excretion, vitamin D toxicity, or hypersensitivity to any of its components. People with conditions such as sarcoidosis, severe renal impairment, or hyperparathyroidism require particular caution and individualized assessment. A healthcare professional should evaluate risks and benefits before starting therapy.
