How ASTHAKIND DX SYRUP 100 ML Works

• Dextromethorphan raises the threshold of the cough centre in the brain, which reduces the urge to cough without acting on the airway itself. This helps with a dry, non-productive cough, one that does not bring up mucus.
• Chlorpheniramine maleate blocks histamine receptors. Histamine is released during an allergic reaction and produces sneezing, a runny nose, watery eyes and itching, so blocking its action settles these symptoms. The same blocking action commonly causes drowsiness.
• Phenylephrine hydrochloride narrows the blood vessels lining the nose. Cold and allergy symptoms swell these blood vessels, which blocks the airway, and narrowing them again reduces the swelling and makes breathing through the nose easier.

Chlorpheniramine commonly causes drowsiness and a dry mouth. Dextromethorphan can cause dizziness or nausea, particularly if more than the prescribed amount is taken. Phenylephrine can raise heart rate and blood pressure in some patients. Rash, swelling of the face or throat, or difficulty breathing are signs of an allergic reaction and need immediate medical attention. Marked drowsiness, an irregular or fast heartbeat, or confusion should also be reported without delay, since these can be signs of taking more than the prescribed amount.

• If you miss a dose of Asthakind-DX Syrup, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed one.

• Store the bottle in its original pack, protected from light and moisture, and out of the reach of children and pets. Keep it at the temperature stated on the current Mankind pack. Do not use the syrup after the expiry date printed on the carton.

• Shake the bottle well before measuring each dose
• Use the measuring cup or oral syringe supplied with the pack, not a household spoon
• Do not give this medicine to a child below four years of age
• This syrup is for a dry cough. A cough bringing up mucus should be checked by a doctor
• Tell the prescriber about high blood pressure, heart disease, an overactive thyroid, glaucoma or prostate enlargement before starting
• Avoid driving or operating machinery until the effect of the medicine is known
• Seek urgent medical help for rash, facial swelling, breathing difficulty or unusual drowsiness

• Asthakind DX Syrup can be taken with or without food.
• Alcohol adds to the drowsiness caused by chlorpheniramine and dextromethorphan and is best avoided while taking this medicine.
