Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them.

Allergies
Contraindicated in severe beta‑lactam allergyDo not take Cetil 500 if you have a known severe allergy to cefuroxime, other cephalosporins, or serious immediate reactions to penicillins.
The amount of time CETIL 500MG TABLET 10'S takes to work depends on the type of infection and response of the patient to the medicine. The antibiotic may start working after you take it but for maximum effect it may require some time. Usually, the symptoms of bacterial infections start to decrease in 48 to 72 hours after starting the medication.
The duration of therapy with CETIL 500MG TABLET 10'S depends upon the type of infection. It is usually given for 7 days. It ranges from 5 to 10 days and depends on the response of the infection in the patient. Before starting the medication consult a doctor who will prescribe the exact duration of therapy and follow the instructions as given.
No, CETIL 500MG TABLET 10'S should not be taken on an empty stomach like other antibiotics of its class. It should be taken twice daily after a meal. Taking CETIL 500MG TABLET 10'S with food increases the absorption rate of the drug. This further enhances the effectiveness of the medicine to treat the infection.
Yes, CETIL 500MG TABLET 10'S can be used to treat urinary tract infection (UTI). But, it is prescribed only in cases of uncomplicated UTIs for 7 to 10 days. The medication is to be prescribed by the doctor only, self-medication is not advised. The severity of the UTI decides the kind of therapy needed to treat it.
Cetil 500 (cefuroxime axetil 500 mg) is used to treat various bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections like pneumonia and bronchitis, sinus infections, some throat infections, certain ear infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and some uncomplicated urinary tract infections, when caused by bacteria that are susceptible to cefuroxime. It should only be used on a doctor’s prescription after proper evaluation.
Cetil 500 is an antibiotic and is not effective against viral infections such as most common colds, flu, or viral fevers. It should not be used solely to treat fever without identifying a bacterial cause. Using antibiotics unnecessarily can lead to side effects and contribute to antibiotic resistance. A doctor should determine whether your symptoms are due to a bacterial infection that requires this medicine.
Cetil 500 is primarily eliminated through the kidneys, but mild, usually reversible changes in liver enzymes can occasionally occur. In people with normal liver function, it is generally considered safe when used as prescribed. Patients with pre‑existing liver disease should inform their doctor before starting therapy so that overall liver function and concurrent medicines can be reviewed. Any symptoms such as persistent nausea, jaundice (yellowing of eyes or skin), or dark urine should be reported promptly.
Cefuroxime is mainly excreted by the kidneys, so kidney function is an important consideration. In patients with reduced kidney function, the doctor may adjust the dosing schedule or choose an alternative antibiotic. People with known kidney disease, a history of kidney failure, or those on dialysis must inform their healthcare provider before taking Cetil 500. Kidney function tests may be monitored during prolonged therapy or in high‑risk patients.
Cefuroxime has been used in pregnancy when clearly needed, and available data do not suggest a major risk of birth defects. However, no medicine is completely risk‑free. Cetil 500 should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies any possible risk to the fetus, as assessed by the treating doctor. Pregnant women should never start or stop this medicine on their own and must discuss all current medications and medical conditions with their obstetrician or physician.
Cefuroxime passes into breast milk in small amounts. It is generally considered compatible with breastfeeding, but mild effects such as loose stools, thrush, or rash may occasionally occur in the breastfed infant. Nursing mothers should use Cetil 500 only on medical advice and should inform the pediatrician if the baby develops diarrhea, oral white patches, or unusual irritability. In most cases, breastfeeding can continue, but this decision should be individualized by the healthcare provider.
Cetil 500 does not usually impair the ability to drive or operate machinery. However, some people may experience side effects such as dizziness, headache, or fatigue. If you feel dizzy, light‑headed, unusually tired, or unwell after taking a dose, you should avoid driving, operating heavy machinery, or performing tasks that require full alertness until you feel normal again. Always observe how the medicine affects you before engaging in such activities.
There is no well‑documented severe interaction between moderate alcohol intake and cefuroxime in most people, but combining alcohol with antibiotics can increase the risk of stomach upset, dizziness, and dehydration, and may make it harder to judge how well the infection is improving. Heavy alcohol use can also affect immunity and liver function. It is generally advisable to limit or avoid alcohol while being treated for an infection and to follow your doctor’s specific advice.
Cetil 500 is a cephalosporin antibiotic. People with a history of severe immediate allergy (such as anaphylaxis, severe rash, or breathing difficulty) to penicillins or other beta‑lactam antibiotics may have an increased risk of cross‑reactivity. You must inform your doctor about any previous allergic reactions to penicillins, cephalosporins, or other medicines before starting Cetil 500. If you develop rash, itching, swelling of the face or throat, difficulty breathing, or severe dizziness after taking a dose, seek emergency medical help and stop the medicine unless advised otherwise by a doctor.
Take Cetil 500 exactly as prescribed and for the full duration recommended by your doctor. Do not share it with others or use it for different illnesses without medical advice. Inform your healthcare provider about any history of kidney or liver disease, intestinal problems such as colitis, allergies to medicines, or ongoing treatments including over‑the‑counter drugs and supplements. If you develop persistent diarrhea, severe abdominal pain, blood or mucus in stools, or any severe or unusual symptoms, contact your doctor promptly, as these may indicate a serious but treatable side effect.
