How ZOCEF 500MG TABLET 10'S Works

• Cefuroxime belongs to the cephalosporin class of antibiotics, which share the beta-lactam ring structure also found in penicillins. It binds to proteins in the bacterial cell wall that are needed to build and maintain its structure, weakening the wall until the bacterial cell becomes unstable and breaks apart.
• Because this cell wall is essential for bacterial survival and is not present in human cells, cefuroxime is able to target the infecting bacteria while causing comparatively little disruption to the body's own cells.

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and skin rash are commonly reported. A rise in liver enzymes on blood testing can occur and is usually temporary. A severe allergic reaction, facial or throat swelling, a widespread skin reaction, or yellowing of the skin or eyes need immediate medical attention. Persistent or bloody diarrhoea after starting this medicine should also be reported promptly, since it can be a sign of a more serious bowel reaction to the antibiotic.

• Store the tablets in their original pack, below 25°C unless the pack states otherwise, away from direct sunlight and moisture, and out of the reach of children. Do not use the tablets after the expiry date printed on the pack.

• Take the tablet with food to improve absorption and reduce stomach upset
• Complete the full prescribed course, even if symptoms improve early
• Tell the prescriber about any penicillin or cephalosporin allergy before starting
• Space this medicine apart from antacids, as advised by a pharmacist
• Stay well hydrated throughout the course
• Seek urgent medical help for facial swelling, a widespread rash, breathing difficulty, or severe or bloody diarrhoea

• Zocef is best taken with or shortly after food, which improves absorption and reduces the chance of stomach upset.
