How COSCOPIN SYRUP 60 ML Works

• Noscapine acts on the cough centre in the brain, raising the threshold needed to trigger the cough reflex. Unlike codeine-based cough suppressants, it is not an opioid and does not carry a meaningful risk of sedation or dependence at the amounts used in this syrup.
• Ammonium chloride and sodium citrate are traditionally included as mild expectorants, believed to help increase the fluid content of respiratory secretions and support the clearance of mucus from the airways. Combining a cough suppressant with mild expectorant support is intended to ease the discomfort of coughing while supporting comfortable clearance of the airways.

Nausea and mild stomach upset are the most commonly reported effects. Drowsiness has been reported uncommonly, since noscapine is generally non-sedating. A severe allergic reaction, such as facial or throat swelling, a widespread rash or breathing difficulty, needs immediate medical attention.

• If you miss a dose of Coscopin Syrup, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.

• Store the bottle in its original pack, below 25°C unless the pack states otherwise, away from direct sunlight and moisture, and out of the reach of children.

• Shake the bottle well and measure the dose with the device provided
• Stay well hydrated, since adequate fluid intake supports the clearance of respiratory secretions
• See a doctor if the cough persists beyond about a week or is accompanied by fever or chest pain
• Tell a doctor about any kidney or liver condition before starting
• Discontinue and seek medical attention if a rash, facial swelling or breathing difficulty occurs

• Coscopin can generally be taken with or without food. Alcohol is best avoided during treatment.
