Some other brands of Escitalopram include Citalo, Esopram, and Lexapro.
Depran 10 is a prescription medicine containing escitalopram (an SSRI antidepressant) and clonazepam (a benzodiazepine). It is generally used for depressive disorders associated with significant anxiety, generalized anxiety disorder, and other anxiety-related conditions, as assessed by a psychiatrist or physician. The escitalopram component helps improve mood and reduce depressive symptoms over time, while clonazepam provides short- to medium-term relief from anxiety, tension, and agitation. The exact indication for an individual patient should be confirmed with the treating doctor.
Depran 10 works through two complementary mechanisms. Escitalopram selectively inhibits the reuptake of serotonin in the brain, increasing its availability in synapses and helping to stabilize mood, reduce depressive symptoms, and alleviate anxiety over several weeks. Clonazepam enhances the effect of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), an inhibitory neurotransmitter, by acting on GABA-A receptors. This produces anxiolytic, sedative, and muscle-relaxant effects, leading to quicker relief of anxiety and associated physical symptoms. The combination aims to provide both early symptom relief and longer-term mood stabilization, but it must be used under close medical supervision.
The clonazepam component of Depran 10 usually starts to reduce anxiety, restlessness, and tension within hours to a few days of starting treatment, depending on individual response and the prescribed regimen. The escitalopram component typically requires 1 to 2 weeks for initial improvement in mood and anxiety, and up to 4 to 6 weeks or longer for full therapeutic benefit. Some patients may notice better sleep or reduced worry before mood improves. If there is no meaningful improvement after several weeks, or if symptoms worsen, the patient should consult the prescribing doctor for reassessment.
Yes, the clonazepam component can cause physical dependence, especially if used at higher doses or for prolonged periods. Stopping clonazepam abruptly after long-term use may lead to withdrawal symptoms such as rebound anxiety, insomnia, irritability, tremor, sweating, or, rarely, seizures. For this reason, Depran 10 should be used for the shortest duration necessary, and any discontinuation or dose reduction should be gradual and supervised by a doctor. Escitalopram can also cause discontinuation symptoms if stopped suddenly, including dizziness, sensory disturbances, sleep problems, and mood changes. A slow taper is usually recommended for both components.
Common side effects of Depran 10 may include drowsiness, dizziness, fatigue, slowed reaction time, dry mouth, nausea, indigestion, constipation or diarrhea, increased sweating, headache, and changes in sleep pattern. Some patients may experience decreased libido, delayed ejaculation, or difficulty achieving orgasm due to escitalopram. Clonazepam can cause sedation, muscle weakness, and impaired coordination. Many side effects are mild and may lessen as the body adjusts to treatment, but persistent, troublesome, or severe symptoms should be discussed with the prescribing doctor.
Depran 10 can be prescribed to older adults, but it requires particular caution. Older patients are more sensitive to benzodiazepines like clonazepam and have a higher risk of excessive sedation, confusion, falls, fractures, and cognitive impairment. They may also be more susceptible to hyponatremia and other adverse effects of SSRIs such as escitalopram. Dose selection, treatment duration, and monitoring should be individualized and conservative in this age group. Any new confusion, unsteadiness, memory problems, or sudden change in behavior should be reported promptly to the doctor.
Alcohol should be avoided while taking Depran 10. Both clonazepam and alcohol depress the central nervous system, and their combined effect can lead to excessive drowsiness, impaired coordination, slowed breathing, and increased risk of accidents or falls. Alcohol may also worsen anxiety and depression in the longer term and can interfere with the therapeutic effect of escitalopram. Patients should be advised not to consume alcoholic beverages or use other sedating substances without medical approval during treatment.
The clonazepam component of Depran 10 has a recognized potential for habit formation and dependence, particularly with long-term use, higher doses, or use in individuals with a history of substance misuse. Psychological dependence may also develop if the medicine is used as the primary coping strategy for stress or anxiety. To minimize this risk, Depran 10 is usually prescribed for a limited duration, with regular review of the ongoing need for clonazepam. Patients should not increase the dose, take extra tablets, or continue therapy beyond the prescribed period without consulting their doctor.
Depran 10 should not be stopped suddenly without medical advice, even if you feel better. Abrupt discontinuation of clonazepam can cause withdrawal symptoms such as rebound anxiety, insomnia, irritability, tremor, and, in rare cases, seizures. Stopping escitalopram suddenly can lead to discontinuation symptoms including dizziness, electric shock-like sensations, sleep disturbances, mood swings, and flu-like symptoms. Your doctor will usually recommend a gradual dose reduction over weeks to minimize these risks and monitor for any return or worsening of symptoms.
Depran 10 may be unsuitable for people with known allergy or hypersensitivity to escitalopram, clonazepam, other benzodiazepines, or any excipients in the formulation. It is generally contraindicated in patients with severe respiratory insufficiency, acute narrow-angle glaucoma, severe liver impairment, or myasthenia gravis, and in those taking certain monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or other medicines that strongly interact with escitalopram. It should be used with great caution in individuals with a history of substance use disorder, suicidal behavior, bipolar disorder, or seizure disorders. A full medical history and medication list should be shared with the prescribing doctor before starting therapy.
Use of Depran 10 in children or adolescents is generally not routine and, if considered at all, should be strictly under specialist psychiatric supervision. SSRIs, including escitalopram, have been associated with an increased risk of suicidal thoughts and behavior in children, adolescents, and young adults, particularly at the start of treatment or after dose changes. Benzodiazepines like clonazepam can also cause paradoxical reactions such as increased agitation or irritability in younger patients. Any use in this age group requires careful risk–benefit assessment, close monitoring, and informed discussion with caregivers.
