Common: indigestion, stomach irritation or pain, nausea, and muscle or joint aches (from atorvastatin). Aspirin can increase the tendency to bruise or bleed. Serious (seek medical attention): signs of stomach bleeding — black or bloody stools, vomiting blood or 'coffee-ground' material, or severe stomach pain; unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness, especially with fever or dark urine (rare serious muscle breakdown); yellowing of the skin/eyes or persistent nausea (liver problems); or an allergic reaction.
Take one capsule once a day, usually after food to reduce stomach irritation, at about the same time each day. Swallow it whole with water. Take it long-term as prescribed — do not stop on your own.
No. It is taken long-term to protect against heart attacks and strokes. Stopping aspirin suddenly can increase the risk of a clot. Speak to your doctor before stopping, including before any surgery or dental procedure.
Report black or bloody stools, vomiting blood, or severe stomach pain (possible bleeding), and any unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness, especially with fever or dark urine. Also report yellowing of the skin/eyes.
Avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice, which can raise atorvastatin levels and the risk of muscle side effects. You should also not drink alcohol, as it adds strain on the liver and stomach.
Mention any history of stomach ulcers or bleeding, asthma, liver or kidney problems, or bleeding disorders, and if pregnant or breastfeeding. List all other medicines — especially blood thinners and other anti-inflammatory painkillers — as they add to bleeding risk.
