How GLYCOMET GP 0.5 TABLET 15'S Works

• Glimepiride stimulates the pancreas to release more insulin, the hormone that lowers blood sugar. Metformin reduces glucose production by the liver and improves the body's response to insulin. Together they lower blood sugar more effectively than either alone, though glimepiride adds a real risk of low blood sugar.

The most important effect is low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia) from glimepiride — shakiness, sweating, hunger, palpitations, dizziness, confusion. From metformin: nausea, diarrhoea, metallic taste, and (long-term) low vitamin B12. Serious (seek medical attention): severe or prolonged low blood sugar; lactic acidosis (unusual tiredness, muscle aches, trouble breathing, feeling very cold, stomach pain); or allergic reactions.
