How LACTIFIBER GRANULES 210 GM Works

• Lactitol monohydrate is not absorbed in the small intestine and passes into the colon largely unchanged. There, colonic bacteria break it down into short-chain organic acids, which raises the osmotic pressure inside the colon. This draws water into the bowel, softens the stool and stimulates the natural contractions that move stool along.
• Ispaghula husk works differently. It absorbs water and swells, increasing stool bulk and improving stool consistency. The added bulk stimulates the bowel wall and helps trigger a bowel movement.
• The two actions work through separate routes, so the granules soften the stool and add bulk to it at the same time. Neither effect is immediate. Lactitol typically needs several hours to act, and a full effect from either ingredient may take a day or longer to become noticeable.

Gas and bloating are common when treatment starts, because lactitol is fermented by bacteria in the colon. These effects often lessen as the bowel adjusts. Taking more than the prescribed amount increases the risk of loose stools or diarrhoea, which can lead to fluid and electrolyte loss, particularly in older adults or anyone using the granules for a long period. An allergic reaction to ispaghula husk or lactitol is uncommon but needs immediate medical attention if it occurs.

• If you forget to take a dose of LACTIFIBER GRANULES 210 GM, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

• Keep the container tightly closed to protect the granules from moisture, and store it out of the reach of children and pets. Store at room temperature away from direct sunlight. Do not use the granules after the expiry date on the pack.

• Always mix the granules with a full glass of liquid and drink promptly
• Drink plenty of fluid throughout the day while using this medicine
• Expect a gradual effect. The full benefit can take a day or longer to appear
• Do not use for a prolonged period without asking a doctor to review the cause of constipation
• Leave a gap of one to two hours between this medicine and other oral medicines
• Tell the prescriber about diabetes, galactosemia or any known allergy to ispaghula or lactitol before starting
• Seek medical advice for severe abdominal pain, persistent diarrhoea or signs of dehydration such as dizziness or reduced urination

• Lactifiber Granules can be mixed with water, juice or milk. Mixing it with hot liquid should be avoided, since heat can affect how the granules form a gel in water.
• No specific interaction with food or alcohol has been established, but a balanced diet and adequate fluid intake support the effect of the granules.
