How LEVOCET SYRUP 60 ML Works

• During an allergic reaction, the body releases histamine, a chemical that triggers sneezing, itching, a runny nose and watery eyes. Levocetirizine blocks the histamine (H1) receptor, preventing histamine from producing these effects.
• Because it is a second-generation antihistamine, levocetirizine is less likely to cross into the brain than older antihistamines, which is why it tends to cause less drowsiness, although some people may still feel mildly sleepy.

Drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, tiredness and headache are the most commonly reported effects, along with nausea, vomiting, constipation and inflammation of the throat and nasal passages. A severe allergic reaction, with facial swelling or difficulty breathing, needs immediate medical attention. Signs of a liver problem, such as dark urine or yellowing of the skin or eyes, or unusual symptoms such as a rapid heartbeat, confusion or hallucinations, should also be reported to a doctor promptly.

• Store the syrup in its original pack, at room temperature, away from direct heat and light, and out of the reach of children.

• Shake the bottle well before each use and measure the dose with the cup provided
• Give at the same time each day for consistent symptom control
• Watch for drowsiness or dizziness, and have the child sit or lie down if this occurs
• Avoid giving alongside fatty foods or fruit juice, which can affect absorption
• Encourage fluids and a fibre-rich diet if dry mouth or constipation occurs
• Seek immediate medical attention for facial swelling, difficulty breathing, or signs of a liver problem such as dark urine or yellowing of the skin or eyes

• Levocet can be taken with or without food, though taking it with a fatty meal or fruit juice may reduce how well it is absorbed.
