Other medical conditions and drug interactions
Inform your doctor about all conditions and medicinesPatients with heart failure, coronary artery disease, cerebrovascular disease, diabetes, or significant electrolyte disturbances should use Nexovas T under close medical supervision.
NEXOVAS T TABLET 10'S is used to treat high blood pressure.
NEXOVAS T TABLET 10'S works by relaxing the blood vessels, making it easier for the heart to pump blood and reducing the workload on the heart.
NEXOVAS T TABLET 10'S should be taken as directed by your doctor. It is usually taken once a day, with or without food, at the same time each day.
If you miss a dose of NEXOVAS T TABLET 10'S , take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
It is recommended to avoid or limit alcohol consumption while taking NEXOVAS T TABLET 10'S as alcohol can increase blood pressure levels and potentially reduce the medication's effectiveness.
If you experience any side effects while taking NEXOVAS T TABLET 10'S , contact your doctor or healthcare provider immediately. They can provide guidance on the best course of action, which may include adjusting your dosage or switching to a different medication.
NEXOVAS T TABLET 10'S should only be used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding if recommended by your doctor. Speak to your healthcare provider about the potential risks and benefits of the medication in your specific situation.
NEXOVAS T TABLET 10'S can interact with other medications, including over-the-counter and herbal products. Always inform your doctor or healthcare provider of any other medications you are taking before starting NEXOVAS T TABLET 10'S .
Nexovas T is primarily used for the treatment of high blood pressure (essential hypertension) in adults. It is a fixed-dose combination of cilnidipine, a calcium channel blocker, and telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker. Together, these medicines relax and widen blood vessels, reduce peripheral vascular resistance, and help lower blood pressure. By maintaining blood pressure within the target range, Nexovas T helps reduce the long-term risk of complications such as stroke, heart attack, heart failure, and kidney damage when used as part of an overall cardiovascular risk management plan.
Nexovas T works through two complementary mechanisms. Cilnidipine blocks L-type and N-type calcium channels in vascular smooth muscle and sympathetic nerve endings, leading to relaxation of blood vessels and reduced sympathetic outflow, which lowers blood pressure. Telmisartan selectively blocks angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptors, preventing the vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II. This results in vasodilation, reduced sodium and water retention, and decreased blood pressure. The combination provides more effective and sustained blood pressure control than either component alone in many patients.
Nexovas T should be taken exactly as prescribed by a registered medical practitioner. It is usually taken once daily at the same time each day, with or without food. The tablet should be swallowed whole with a glass of water and should not be crushed, broken, or chewed unless your doctor or pharmacist specifically advises otherwise. Do not change the dose, frequency, or duration of use on your own. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose; in that case, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
Common side effects associated with Nexovas T may include dizziness, light-headedness (especially when standing up quickly), headache, flushing, ankle or leg swelling, fatigue, palpitations, and mild gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, abdominal discomfort, or constipation. Some patients may experience a feeling of weakness or increased urination at the start of therapy. These effects are often mild and may improve as the body adjusts to the medicine. If side effects are persistent, bothersome, or worsening, you should consult your doctor. Sudden severe dizziness, fainting, chest pain, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face, lips, or tongue require urgent medical attention.
Nexovas T is generally contraindicated during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters. Telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker, can cause serious harm to the developing fetus, including kidney dysfunction, reduced amniotic fluid, skull abnormalities, and even fetal death. If you are planning a pregnancy, your doctor will usually switch you to an alternative antihypertensive with a better-established safety profile in pregnancy. If you become pregnant while taking Nexovas T, you should inform your doctor immediately so that the medicine can be discontinued and replaced with a safer alternative as soon as possible.
The safety of Nexovas T during breastfeeding is not well established. Telmisartan may pass into breast milk to an unknown extent, and potential effects on the nursing infant cannot be ruled out. Cilnidipine data in lactation are also limited. Therefore, Nexovas T is generally not recommended during breastfeeding unless the potential benefit to the mother clearly outweighs any possible risk to the infant and no suitable alternative is available. Your doctor may advise switching to an antihypertensive with more established safety data in breastfeeding or may recommend avoiding breastfeeding while on this combination.
Alcohol can enhance the blood pressure-lowering effect of Nexovas T and may increase the risk of dizziness, light-headedness, or fainting, particularly when standing up quickly. Excessive alcohol intake can also worsen blood pressure control and counteract the benefits of treatment. It is advisable to limit or avoid alcohol while taking Nexovas T. If you choose to drink, do so in moderation and be alert to symptoms such as dizziness or weakness. Discuss your alcohol consumption with your doctor so that your overall cardiovascular risk and treatment plan can be appropriately managed.
Patients with pre-existing kidney disease should use Nexovas T with caution and under close medical supervision. Telmisartan can affect kidney function, particularly in individuals with renal artery stenosis, severe heart failure, dehydration, or those taking other medicines that influence kidney function, such as NSAIDs or certain diuretics. Your doctor may order baseline and periodic tests of kidney function (serum creatinine, estimated glomerular filtration rate) and electrolytes, especially potassium. If there is a significant decline in kidney function or a marked rise in potassium levels, your doctor may adjust the dose, modify other medicines, or discontinue Nexovas T.
Yes, Nexovas T can increase serum potassium levels (hyperkalaemia), mainly due to the telmisartan component, which reduces aldosterone-mediated potassium excretion in the kidneys. The risk is higher in patients with kidney impairment, diabetes, older age, or those taking other medicines that raise potassium, such as potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, or certain other antihypertensives. Symptoms of significant hyperkalaemia may include muscle weakness, palpitations, or abnormal heart rhythms, but it can also be asymptomatic. Regular monitoring of serum potassium is recommended in at-risk patients, and you should not take potassium supplements or salt substitutes containing potassium without medical advice.
If you feel very dizzy, light-headed, or close to fainting after taking Nexovas T, sit or lie down immediately to reduce the risk of falling and injury. Rise slowly from sitting or lying positions. Such symptoms may indicate an excessive drop in blood pressure, especially at the start of treatment, after a dose change, or if you are dehydrated. If the dizziness is severe, persistent, or associated with chest pain, shortness of breath, confusion, or loss of consciousness, seek urgent medical attention. Inform your doctor about these symptoms; your dose, timing, or concomitant medicines may need adjustment, or additional evaluation may be required.
You should not stop taking Nexovas T on your own, even if your blood pressure readings have improved and you feel well. Hypertension is often a chronic condition, and stopping treatment abruptly can lead to a rebound increase in blood pressure and a higher risk of cardiovascular events. Any decision to reduce the dose or discontinue Nexovas T should be made by your doctor based on a comprehensive assessment, including blood pressure trends, overall cardiovascular risk, and lifestyle measures. If a change is appropriate, your doctor will guide you on how to adjust therapy safely.
