Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them.

Other Precautions
Monitor long-term useBefore starting Ocid 20 tablet, patients with alarm features such as unexplained weight loss, persistent vomiting, difficulty swallowing, or gastrointestinal bleeding should be evaluated for serious underlying disease.
This medicine can be safely taken with domperidone as no harmful effects have been reported clinically. A fixed-dose combination of these two medicines is also available. Domperidone works by increasing the gut motility and OCID 20MG CAPSULE 20'S decreases the acid production in the stomach. So, this combination is very effective in the treatment of reflux esophagitis associated with acidity, heartburn, intestinal and stomach ulcers.
You should not take it if you are taking a medicine containing atazanavir and nelfinavir (used for HIV infection). Let your doctor know if you are suffering from any liver problems, persistent diarrhea or vomiting, black stools (blood-stained stools), unusual weight loss, trouble swallowing, stomach pain or indigestion. Tell your doctor about all the other medicines you are taking because they may affect, or be affected by, this medicine. Inform your doctor if you have or ever had an allergic skin reaction with this medicine. It should not be given to children who are less than 1 year of age or whose body weight is less than 10 kgs. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should consult their doctor before taking this medicine to avoid harmful effects on the baby.
Yes, it may cause diarrhea as a side effect in some people. This is usually not bothersome, but if you experience persistent watery stools that do not go away, along with stomach cramps and fever, get medical help immediately.
Take it for as long as advised by your doctor. The duration may vary depending on your condition. Do not stop taking this medicine without talking to your doctor.
It can cause osteoporosis (thinning of bones) as it decreases the calcium absorption leading to calcium deficiency. This leads to an increased risk of bone fractures on long-term use, like hip, wrist or spine fractures. Inform your doctor if you have osteoporosis or if you are taking corticosteroids (these can increase the risk of osteoporosis) before starting your therapy. Consult your doctor on ways to prevent this. Your doctor may advise you calcium or vitamin D supplements to reduce the risk.
If used for more than 3 months, certain long term side effects may be seen. The most important of these is low magnesium levels in your blood which may make you feel tired, confused, dizzy, shaky, or dizzy. You may also have muscle twitches or irregular heartbeat. If the use is further prolonged for more than a year, you may have an increased risk of bone fractures (due to decreased calcium levels in the blood), especially hip, wrist, or spine, stomach infections, and vitamin B12 deficiency. Vitamin B12 deficiency can make you anemic, as a result of which you may feel more tired, weak, or pale. Additionally, you may also have palpitations, shortness of breath, lightheadedness, indigestion, loss of appetite, flatulence (gas), or nerve problems such as numbness, tingling, and problem in walking.
It may cause vitamin B12 and vitamin C deficiency. When taken orally, vitamin B12 requires an acidic environment for its absorption from the stomach while this medicine causes a decrease in gastric acid secretion. You may need to take vitamin B12 supplements along with it. The clinical significance of the decrease in vitamin C levels is not known, so vitamin C supplementation is not recommended.
Patients with cardiac disease can take this medicine as prescribed by the doctor. However, it can interact with certain drugs (e.g clopidogrel, digoxin) which might be used by a patient with an underlying cardiac disease. Patients taking these medicines together need to be monitored closely by a doctor.
Ocid 20 tablet contains omeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor used to reduce stomach acid. It is prescribed for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcers (stomach and duodenal ulcers), erosive esophagitis, and conditions with excessive acid production such as Zollinger–Ellison syndrome. It is also used, in combination with antibiotics, to treat Helicobacter pylori infection and to prevent or treat ulcers associated with long-term NSAID use in at-risk patients.
Ocid 20 tablet works by selectively blocking the proton pump (H+/K+ ATPase) in the stomach lining, which is responsible for the final step of acid secretion into the stomach. By inhibiting this pump, omeprazole significantly reduces both basal and stimulated gastric acid production. This reduction in acid allows inflamed or ulcerated tissue in the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum to heal and helps relieve symptoms such as heartburn and acid regurgitation.
Some people may notice partial relief of heartburn or acid-related discomfort within a few hours of the first dose, but maximum effect usually occurs after 2 to 3 days of continuous use, as the proton pumps are gradually inhibited. For healing of ulcers or erosive esophagitis, several weeks of therapy may be required, depending on the underlying condition and individual response. Patients should follow the prescribed duration and not stop early without consulting their doctor, even if symptoms improve.
Short-term, low-dose omeprazole products are available in some regions for self-treatment of frequent heartburn, but Ocid 20 tablet is generally intended for use under medical supervision. Self-medicating for more than a short period without evaluation can mask serious conditions such as gastric cancer or complicated ulcer disease. If you experience heartburn more than a few times per week, have symptoms for more than two weeks, or have alarm features like weight loss, difficulty swallowing, or vomiting, you should seek medical assessment before using Ocid 20 or any similar medicine.
Ocid 20 tablet should be swallowed whole with water, usually before a meal, as directed by your doctor. It should not be crushed or chewed, because the formulation is designed to protect the active ingredient from stomach acid until it reaches the intestine. Taking it at the same time each day helps maintain consistent acid suppression. The exact dosing schedule, including how many times per day and for how many days or weeks, must be determined by a healthcare professional based on your diagnosis and overall health.
Common side effects of Ocid 20 tablet include headache, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, flatulence, diarrhea, and constipation. These effects are usually mild and temporary. Less common but more serious side effects can include severe allergic reactions (rash, swelling of the face or throat, difficulty breathing), persistent or severe diarrhea, muscle cramps, irregular heartbeat, seizures related to low magnesium, and signs of liver problems such as yellowing of the skin or eyes. If you experience severe or persistent symptoms, you should contact your doctor promptly.
Long-term use of Ocid 20 tablet may be necessary for certain conditions, but it should be regularly reviewed by a healthcare professional. Prolonged therapy with proton pump inhibitors has been associated with potential risks, including vitamin B12 deficiency, low magnesium levels, possible increased risk of bone fractures in older adults, and a higher likelihood of certain infections such as Clostridioides difficile–associated diarrhea and some respiratory infections. The benefits and risks must be weighed individually, and the lowest effective dose for the shortest necessary duration is generally recommended.
Omeprazole has been used during pregnancy and available data do not suggest a major increase in risk of congenital malformations. However, Ocid 20 tablet should be used in pregnancy only if clearly needed and after discussion with a healthcare professional. In many cases, lifestyle measures and antacids or other medicines with more extensive pregnancy safety data may be tried first. The decision to use Ocid 20 should consider the severity of symptoms, alternative options, and the overall health of the mother and fetus.
Yes, Ocid 20 tablet can interact with several medicines. By changing stomach acidity, it can affect the absorption of drugs such as ketoconazole, itraconazole, and some HIV medicines. Omeprazole can also influence the metabolism of drugs processed by certain liver enzymes, potentially affecting medicines like warfarin, phenytoin, and some antiretrovirals. In addition, it may interact with clopidogrel, potentially reducing its antiplatelet effect. It is important to inform your doctor and pharmacist about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter products, and herbal supplements you are taking before starting Ocid 20.
Ocid 20 tablet should be avoided in individuals with known hypersensitivity to omeprazole, other proton pump inhibitors, or any component of the formulation. Caution is advised in patients with severe liver impairment, those with a history of low magnesium or vitamin B12 levels, individuals with osteoporosis or high fracture risk, and patients taking medicines that have significant interactions with omeprazole. People with alarm symptoms such as difficulty swallowing, recurrent vomiting, gastrointestinal bleeding, or unexplained weight loss should be evaluated for serious underlying disease before or during treatment with Ocid 20.
