About PIMAREAL CAPSULE 10'S

PIMAREAL contains Pimavanserin 34 mg, used to treat hallucinations and delusions (psychosis) associated with Parkinson's disease. Unlike older antipsychotics, it works on serotonin receptors and does not block dopamine, so it does not worsen Parkinson's movement symptoms. It is a once-daily, prescription-only, specialist-guided medicine. Each strip contains 10 capsules.

How PIMAREAL CAPSULE 10'S Works

Psychosis in Parkinson's disease involves overactivity at certain serotonin (5-HT2A) receptors in the brain. Pimavanserin blocks/inverses these receptors, reducing hallucinations and delusions — while leaving dopamine signalling untouched, so it does not worsen the movement problems of Parkinson's.

Side Effects of PIMAREAL CAPSULE 10'S

Common: swelling of the legs/ankles, nausea, constipation, confusion, and hallucinations. Serious (seek medical attention): a fast or irregular heartbeat or fainting (it can affect heart rhythm — the QT interval); worsening confusion; or a serious allergic reaction. Like other antipsychotics, it carries an increased risk of death in elderly people with dementia-related psychosis and is not for that use.

How to store PIMAREAL CAPSULE 10'S?

Keep PIMAREAL 34MG CAP 1X10 away from the reach of children and pets.

FAQs

How should I take it?

Take it once a day, with or without food, at about the same time each day. Swallow with water. It may take a couple of weeks to work; do not stop on your own.

Does it affect the heart?

It can affect heart rhythm (QT interval). Tell your doctor about any heart rhythm problems and all other medicines, as some combinations increase this risk. Report palpitations or fainting.

Is it suitable for dementia-related hallucinations?

It is approved for Parkinson's disease psychosis. Antipsychotics increase the risk of death in elderly people with dementia-related psychosis, so it should be used only as your doctor directs.

What should I tell my doctor?

Mention heart or kidney problems and all medicines/supplements — strong interacting medicines can change the dose needed. Do not drink alcohol.

What should carers watch for?

Watch for a fast or irregular heartbeat, fainting, worsening confusion, or leg swelling, and report these to the doctor. Keep follow-up appointments.
