Composition
Common: swelling of the legs/ankles, nausea, constipation, confusion, and hallucinations. Serious (seek medical attention): a fast or irregular heartbeat or fainting (it can affect heart rhythm — the QT interval); worsening confusion; or a serious allergic reaction. Like other antipsychotics, it carries an increased risk of death in elderly people with dementia-related psychosis and is not for that use.
Take it once a day, with or without food, at about the same time each day. Swallow with water. It may take a couple of weeks to work; do not stop on your own.
It can affect heart rhythm (QT interval). Tell your doctor about any heart rhythm problems and all other medicines, as some combinations increase this risk. Report palpitations or fainting.
It is approved for Parkinson's disease psychosis. Antipsychotics increase the risk of death in elderly people with dementia-related psychosis, so it should be used only as your doctor directs.
Mention heart or kidney problems and all medicines/supplements — strong interacting medicines can change the dose needed. Do not drink alcohol.
Watch for a fast or irregular heartbeat, fainting, worsening confusion, or leg swelling, and report these to the doctor. Keep follow-up appointments.
