How PRIMOLUT N TABLET 10'S Works

• Norethisterone binds to progesterone receptors in the lining of the womb, the endometrium. It stops the lining from thickening further and turns it into a stable, non-growing layer, so bleeding slows and stops while the tablets are taken. When a course ends, hormone levels fall and the lining sheds as a controlled withdrawal bleed, usually within a few days.
• It also suppresses ovulation more strongly than natural progesterone does, which calms the monthly hormone swings behind premenstrual symptoms. In endometriosis, where womb-like tissue grows outside the womb, the same action reduces the growth and bleeding of that tissue.

Headache, nausea, abdominal pain and irregular bleeding or spotting are the most commonly reported effects. Migraine, dizziness and visual disturbances are less common. Low mood, jaundice and skin rash are rare. Progestogen treatment has been linked to blood clots in veins and arteries, which can be life-threatening. The following need emergency help: pain or swelling in one leg, sudden chest pain or breathlessness, coughing blood, a sudden severe headache or migraine, loss of vision, weakness or numbness of one side of the body, or difficulty speaking. Yellowing of the skin or eyes, severe upper abdominal pain or generalised itching can mean liver problems, and the tablets should be stopped and a doctor seen.

• Store the strip in its carton in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, and follow the storage instruction printed on the current Zydus pack. Keep it out of the reach of children, and do not use it after the expiry date.

• Use condoms while taking it, since it does not prevent pregnancy
• Follow the prescribed days and times exactly
• Tell the doctor about any past blood clot, migraine with aura, liver disease or cancer
• Seek emergency help for leg swelling, chest pain or sudden breathlessness
• See the doctor if heavy bleeding continues despite treatment

• Primolut N can be taken with or without food. No specific food interactions have been reported.
• Heavy alcohol use strains the liver, which processes norethisterone. Smoking raises the risk of blood clots and is best stopped.
