Consult your doctor before taking Prolomet R 50mg Tablet while breastfeeding, as it may pass into breast milk and affect the baby.

Yes, Prolomet R 50mg Tablet contains metoprolol, which is a beta-blocker. It works by blocking the effects of certain natural chemicals in your body, such as epinephrine, on the heart and blood vessels.
Inform your doctor if you have any underlying medical conditions such as asthma, diabetes, or thyroid problems before starting Prolomet R 50mg Tablet. Also, avoid alcohol consumption as it may enhance the side effects.
Using Prolomet R 50mg Tablet with other blood pressure medications can sometimes cause an unsafe drop in blood pressure. It's crucial to consult your doctor to adjust dosages appropriately to avoid hypotension.
Prolomet R 50mg Tablet typically starts to show its effect within a few hours, but it may take several weeks to achieve its full therapeutic effect on blood pressure and angina. Regular monitoring and adherence to the prescribed dosage are key.
Prolomet R 50 is a combination medicine containing metoprolol succinate and ramipril. It is primarily used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and may be prescribed in certain patients with heart disease to reduce cardiovascular risk. By lowering blood pressure and reducing the workload on the heart, it helps decrease the risk of complications such as heart attack, stroke, and kidney damage in appropriately selected patients.
Prolomet R 50 works through two complementary mechanisms. Metoprolol succinate is a beta-1 selective beta blocker that reduces heart rate, decreases the force of heart contractions, and lowers blood pressure by blocking the effects of adrenaline on the heart. Ramipril is an ACE inhibitor that blocks the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, a substance that normally causes blood vessels to constrict and promotes sodium and water retention. By relaxing blood vessels and reducing blood volume, ramipril further lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow.
Prolomet R 50 should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It is usually taken once daily, at the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water and do not crush or chew it unless your doctor or pharmacist specifically advises otherwise. Do not change the dose, skip doses, or stop taking the medicine without consulting your healthcare provider, as abrupt changes can lead to worsening blood pressure control or heart-related problems.
Common side effects of Prolomet R 50 may include dizziness, fatigue, headache, slow heart rate, low blood pressure, cold hands and feet, nausea, stomach discomfort, and a dry persistent cough. Some people may experience sleep disturbances or mild swelling of the ankles. These effects are often mild and may improve as your body adjusts to the medicine. However, if side effects are severe, persistent, or worrying, you should contact your doctor for advice.
Yes, although uncommon, Prolomet R 50 can cause serious side effects that require urgent medical attention. These include severe dizziness or fainting due to very low blood pressure, very slow or irregular heartbeat, worsening shortness of breath, sudden swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat (angioedema), difficulty breathing, chest pain, or signs of high potassium such as muscle weakness or abnormal heart rhythm. If you experience any of these symptoms, seek immediate medical care.
Prolomet R 50 can be used in some patients with kidney impairment, but it requires careful monitoring and possible dose adjustment, mainly because ramipril is cleared through the kidneys and can affect kidney function and potassium levels. In patients with significant kidney disease, narrowing of the kidney arteries, or a history of ACE inhibitor–related kidney issues, the medicine may need to be avoided or used with extreme caution. Kidney function and electrolytes should be checked regularly as advised by the doctor.
Alcohol can enhance the blood pressure–lowering effect of Prolomet R 50 and may increase the risk of dizziness, light-headedness, or fainting, especially when standing up quickly. It is generally advisable to limit or avoid alcohol while taking this medicine. If you choose to drink, do so in moderation and be alert to symptoms of low blood pressure. Discuss your alcohol intake with your healthcare provider for personalized guidance.
Prolomet R 50 is not generally recommended during pregnancy. ACE inhibitors such as ramipril can cause harm to the developing fetus, particularly in the second and third trimesters, including kidney problems, reduced amniotic fluid, and other serious complications. Beta blockers may also affect fetal growth and heart rate. Women who are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or who become pregnant while taking Prolomet R 50 should contact their doctor immediately to discuss safer alternative treatments.
Both metoprolol and ramipril, or their metabolites, may pass into breast milk in varying amounts. Metoprolol is generally considered compatible with breastfeeding at usual doses, but infants should be monitored for signs of excessive sleepiness, poor feeding, or slow heart rate. Data on ramipril during breastfeeding are more limited, and caution is advised. The decision to use Prolomet R 50 while breastfeeding should be made in consultation with your doctor, weighing the benefits for the mother against potential risks to the infant.
If you miss a dose of Prolomet R 50, take it as soon as you remember on the same day. If it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and take the next one at the regular time. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose, as this may increase the risk of low blood pressure or slow heart rate. If you frequently forget doses, speak with your healthcare provider about strategies to improve adherence.
You should not stop taking Prolomet R 50 on your own, even if your blood pressure readings are within the target range and you feel well. High blood pressure often has no symptoms, and stopping treatment abruptly, particularly the beta blocker component, can lead to rebound increases in heart rate and blood pressure, and may worsen angina or trigger serious heart events in susceptible patients. Any change in therapy should be done gradually and only under medical supervision.
Several medicines can interact with Prolomet R 50. These include other blood pressure–lowering drugs, diuretics, potassium supplements, potassium-sparing diuretics, certain antiarrhythmics, some antidepressants, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and medicines for diabetes, among others. High-potassium salt substitutes may increase the risk of high potassium when used with ramipril. Always inform your doctor and pharmacist about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter products, and herbal supplements you are taking before starting Prolomet R 50.
