Recofast Plus is a combination medicine used for short-term relief of symptoms associated with the common cold, flu-like illnesses, and upper respiratory tract infections. It helps reduce fever, headache, body aches, nasal congestion, sneezing, and runny nose. It does not treat the underlying viral infection but provides symptomatic relief while the illness runs its course.
Recofast Plus contains three active ingredients: chlorpheniramine maleate 2 mg, paracetamol (acetaminophen) 500 mg, and phenylephrine 10 mg per tablet, based on the composition information you provided. Chlorpheniramine is an antihistamine, paracetamol is an analgesic and antipyretic, and phenylephrine is a nasal decongestant.
Recofast Plus works through the combined actions of its components. Paracetamol reduces pain and fever by acting on the central nervous system and temperature-regulating centers in the brain. Chlorpheniramine blocks histamine H1 receptors, reducing allergic symptoms such as sneezing, watery eyes, and runny nose. Phenylephrine constricts blood vessels in the nasal mucosa, decreasing swelling and congestion and improving nasal airflow.
Recofast Plus should not be taken together with other medicines that contain paracetamol, antihistamines, or decongestants, as this may increase the risk of overdose or side effects such as excessive drowsiness, elevated blood pressure, or liver toxicity. Before combining it with any other over-the-counter or prescription product for cold, allergy, or pain, you should consult a doctor or pharmacist and carefully check the ingredient lists.
Recofast Plus must be used with caution in people with high blood pressure because it contains phenylephrine, a decongestant that can constrict blood vessels and potentially increase blood pressure and heart rate. Individuals with hypertension, heart disease, or a history of stroke should consult their doctor before using this medicine. In some cases, an alternative product without a systemic decongestant may be preferred.
Yes. Recofast Plus contains chlorpheniramine, a first-generation antihistamine that commonly causes drowsiness, dizziness, and slowed reaction time. Some people may feel sedated or less alert, while others may experience paradoxical restlessness. Because of this, activities requiring mental alertness, such as driving or operating machinery, should be avoided or performed with caution until you know how the medicine affects you.
The safety of Recofast Plus during pregnancy has not been fully established in controlled studies. While paracetamol is generally considered relatively safe when used at recommended doses during pregnancy, chlorpheniramine and phenylephrine require caution. Phenylephrine, in particular, may reduce uteroplacental blood flow. Therefore, Recofast Plus should only be used in pregnancy if clearly needed and after a careful risk–benefit assessment by a doctor. Self-medication during pregnancy is not recommended.
Paracetamol passes into breast milk in small amounts and is usually considered compatible with breastfeeding at recommended doses. Chlorpheniramine and phenylephrine may also pass into breast milk and could potentially cause irritability, drowsiness, or feeding difficulties in the infant, and may reduce milk production in some women. Because of these uncertainties, Recofast Plus should be used during breastfeeding only on medical advice, for the shortest possible duration, and with monitoring of the infant for any unusual symptoms.
Common side effects of Recofast Plus may include drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, blurred vision, nausea, mild stomach discomfort, and sometimes restlessness or difficulty sleeping. Due to phenylephrine, some people may experience palpitations, a feeling of a fast heartbeat, or a slight increase in blood pressure. Serious but less common adverse effects include allergic reactions (such as rash, itching, swelling, or breathing difficulty), significant liver injury related to paracetamol, or marked cardiovascular effects. If you experience severe or persistent side effects, seek medical attention promptly.
Recofast Plus should generally be avoided by individuals with known hypersensitivity to paracetamol, chlorpheniramine, phenylephrine, or any excipients in the formulation. It is usually contraindicated in people taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or within 14 days of stopping such therapy, due to the risk of severe hypertensive reactions. Caution or avoidance is also advised in patients with severe liver or kidney impairment, uncontrolled hypertension, serious heart disease, hyperthyroidism, narrow-angle glaucoma, urinary retention (for example due to prostate enlargement), or a history of severe adverse reactions to similar medicines. Children and older adults may require special dosing and medical supervision; product-specific age restrictions must be followed.
Recofast Plus is often taken on an as-needed basis for symptom relief rather than on a strict dosing schedule. If your doctor has advised regular dosing and you miss a dose, take it when you remember unless it is almost time for the next scheduled dose. In that case, skip the missed dose and resume your usual schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one. If you are unsure how to adjust your dosing, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
