Heart and Blood Pressure
Use with cautionPhenylephrine in Sinarest AF Syrup can increase blood pressure and heart rate by constricting blood vessels, which may be problematic in patients with hypertension, coronary artery disease, arrhythmias, or other cardiovascular conditions.
Sinarest AF Syrup is used for short-term relief of symptoms associated with the common cold, allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, and other upper respiratory tract conditions. It helps reduce sneezing, runny nose, nasal congestion, and related discomfort. It does not cure the underlying infection or allergy but provides symptomatic relief while the body recovers or while other specific treatments take effect.
Sinarest AF Syrup usually contains chlorpheniramine maleate, an antihistamine, and phenylephrine, a nasal decongestant. Chlorpheniramine blocks histamine H1 receptors, reducing allergy symptoms such as sneezing and runny nose. Phenylephrine causes constriction of blood vessels in the nasal passages, which decreases swelling and congestion. Together, these actions help relieve nasal blockage and allergic symptoms.
Sinarest AF Syrup may be prescribed for children, but the decision and dosing must be made by a pediatrician or qualified healthcare professional. Age, body weight, and the child’s medical history are important in determining whether this medicine is appropriate. Parents should never guess the dose or use adult dosing instructions for a child. If the child develops unusual drowsiness, irritability, breathing difficulty, or any other concerning symptom, medical attention is required immediately.
Yes, Sinarest AF Syrup can cause drowsiness because it contains chlorpheniramine, a sedating antihistamine. The degree of drowsiness varies between individuals. Some people may also experience dizziness, reduced alertness, or slowed reaction time. Patients should avoid driving, operating machinery, or performing tasks that require full concentration until they know how the medicine affects them.
Caution is required when combining Sinarest AF Syrup with other cold, flu, or allergy products, as many of these contain similar antihistamines or decongestants. Taking multiple products with overlapping ingredients can increase the risk of side effects such as excessive drowsiness, high blood pressure, or heart rhythm disturbances. Always check labels and consult a healthcare professional or pharmacist before using Sinarest AF Syrup with any other over-the-counter or prescription medicine.
The safety of Sinarest AF Syrup in pregnancy depends on the stage of pregnancy, the mother’s health, and the severity of symptoms. Some components may not be recommended, especially in the first trimester, unless clearly needed. Pregnant women should not self-medicate with this syrup. A doctor should assess the potential benefits and risks and may suggest alternative treatments or the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible duration if use is considered necessary.
Chlorpheniramine and phenylephrine may pass into breast milk in small amounts and could potentially cause irritability, poor feeding, or drowsiness in the breastfed infant, or reduce milk production in some mothers. Therefore, Sinarest AF Syrup should be used with caution during breastfeeding and only on the advice of a healthcare professional. If the baby shows unusual sleepiness, feeding difficulties, or irritability, medical advice should be sought promptly.
Sinarest AF Syrup may be unsuitable for people with certain conditions, including severe high blood pressure, serious heart disease, significant coronary artery disease, uncontrolled hyperthyroidism, narrow-angle glaucoma, severe liver or kidney impairment, urinary retention or enlarged prostate, and known hypersensitivity to any of its ingredients. It should also be used cautiously in elderly patients and those taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors or other medicines that affect blood pressure or heart rhythm. A healthcare professional should review the patient’s full medical history before prescribing.
Common side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, dry throat, mild headache, and sometimes gastrointestinal discomfort such as nausea or constipation. Some people may experience palpitations or a slight increase in blood pressure due to the decongestant component. Most side effects are mild and resolve when the medicine is stopped. However, if side effects are severe, persistent, or include difficulty breathing, chest pain, severe rash, or swelling of the face or throat, urgent medical attention is required.
If a dose is missed and it is still some time before the next scheduled dose, it can usually be taken when remembered. If it is almost time for the next dose, the missed dose should be skipped and the regular dosing schedule resumed. Double doses should not be taken to make up for a missed dose, as this increases the risk of side effects such as excessive drowsiness, agitation, or cardiovascular effects. If repeated doses are missed or symptoms are not improving, medical advice should be sought.
Alcohol should generally be avoided while taking Sinarest AF Syrup. Alcohol can enhance the sedative effects of chlorpheniramine, leading to increased drowsiness, impaired coordination, and reduced alertness. This combination may also increase the risk of accidents, especially when driving or operating machinery. In some individuals, alcohol may worsen dizziness or cause unpredictable changes in blood pressure when combined with decongestants.
Sinarest AF Syrup is intended for short-term use to relieve acute symptoms. Prolonged or continuous use without medical supervision is not recommended, as it may increase the risk of side effects and may mask a more serious underlying condition. If symptoms persist beyond a few days, recur frequently, or are associated with high fever, breathing difficulty, or chest pain, a thorough medical evaluation is necessary rather than continued self-medication.
