Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them.

Metabolic and cardiovascular risk
Monitor regularlyRisperidone can contribute to weight gain and metabolic changes, including increased blood glucose, cholesterol, and triglycerides, which may raise long‑term cardiovascular risk.
Few studies suggest that low doses of SIZODON MD 0.5MG TABLET 10'S can be used for anxiety. However, do not take this medication without consulting your doctor. The doctor will suggest the exact dose by weighing the possible benefits and risks associated with this medicine. Take the medication as advised by the doctor and follow the instructions as provided.
SIZODON MD 0.5MG TABLET 10'S is used to treat conditions like psychosis and schizophrenia. The chances of developing medicine-induced psychosis are rare with SIZODON MD 0.5MG TABLET 10'S. However, in a few specific conditions, there are chances where SIZODON MD 0.5MG TABLET 10'S can worsen the psychiatric condition, although it is rare. Do consult your doctor if you do not see any improvement or worsening of symptoms.
Yes, SIZODON MD 0.5MG TABLET 10'S can cause significant weight gain. You should monitor your weight regularly and if there is significant weight gain then you should report your doctor immediately.
SIZODON MD 0.5MG TABLET 10'S sometimes can cause dizziness, tiredness, and vision problems which can affect the ability of a person to drive and use heavy machines. Hence, the patients on SIZODON MD 0.5MG TABLET 10'S are advised not to drive or operate machinery without consulting the doctor.
You should not stop taking your anti-epileptic medicines while taking other medications. Some antiepileptic medications like Carbamazepine, phenytoin may alter the blood levels of SIZODON MD 0.5MG TABLET 10'S and therefore special caution should be ensured while taking these medications. The dose of SIZODON MD 0.5MG TABLET 10'S should be adjusted as needed while taking along with antiepileptic drugs. If you start or stop taking such medicines you may need a different dose of SIZODON MD 0.5MG TABLET 10'S.
Sizodon 0.5 is a brand of antipsychotic medicine that contains risperidone as its active ingredient. Risperidone is an atypical (second‑generation) antipsychotic used to manage certain psychiatric conditions such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and behavioural disturbances in selected patients. The 0.5 strength indicates a low dose, often used for initiation, dose adjustment, or in individuals who require smaller increments of risperidone. The exact indication and dosing schedule should be determined by a psychiatrist or other qualified physician.
Sizodon 0.5 (risperidone) is commonly prescribed for schizophrenia, certain forms of bipolar disorder (such as acute manic or mixed episodes), and for managing irritability, aggression, or severe behavioural problems associated with specific developmental or neuropsychiatric disorders, as assessed by a specialist. In some cases, it may be used as part of combination therapy with other psychotropic medicines. The decision to use risperidone, and the choice of strength such as 0.5, depends on the patient’s diagnosis, age, symptom severity, previous treatment response, and overall medical status.
Sizodon 0.5 contains risperidone, which works mainly by blocking dopamine D2 receptors and serotonin 5‑HT2 receptors in the brain. Overactivity of dopamine pathways is thought to contribute to psychotic symptoms such as hallucinations and delusions, while serotonin modulation influences mood, anxiety, and cognition. By rebalancing these neurotransmitter systems, risperidone can reduce positive symptoms (hallucinations, delusions, agitation), and in some patients may also improve negative symptoms (social withdrawal, lack of motivation) and mood instability. The full therapeutic effect may take several days to weeks to become evident.
Some patients may notice improvement in agitation, sleep, or anxiety within a few days of starting Sizodon 0.5, but meaningful improvement in core psychotic or mood symptoms often takes 1 to 2 weeks or longer. Full therapeutic benefit may require several weeks or more, depending on the condition being treated, the dose, and individual response. It is important to continue the medicine as prescribed and attend follow‑up appointments so the doctor can assess effectiveness and adjust treatment if needed. Patients should not stop the medicine on their own just because they do not feel immediate improvement.
Common side effects of Sizodon 0.5 (risperidone) include drowsiness, dizziness, fatigue, increased appetite, weight gain, constipation, dry mouth, nausea, abdominal discomfort, tremor, muscle stiffness, restlessness or a feeling of inner unease (akathisia), and sleep disturbances. Some patients may experience increased salivation or blurred vision. Risperidone can raise prolactin levels, which may cause menstrual irregularities, breast enlargement, or milk discharge in some individuals. Many side effects are dose‑related and may lessen over time, but any persistent, troublesome, or severe symptoms should be discussed with the prescribing doctor.
Yes, although serious adverse effects are less common, they can occur and require prompt medical attention. These include extrapyramidal symptoms (such as rigidity, tremor, abnormal movements, or Parkinsonism), tardive dyskinesia (involuntary repetitive movements, often of the face or tongue), significant weight gain and metabolic changes (increased blood sugar, cholesterol, or triglycerides), orthostatic hypotension (drop in blood pressure when standing), seizures in susceptible individuals, and changes in heart rhythm. A rare but life‑threatening reaction called neuroleptic malignant syndrome can occur, characterised by high fever, severe muscle stiffness, confusion, and autonomic instability. Any sudden change in mood, suicidal thoughts, or unusual behavioural changes should also be reported urgently.
Sizodon 0.5 should not be stopped abruptly without medical advice, even if you feel better. Sudden discontinuation can lead to relapse or worsening of the underlying psychiatric condition and may cause withdrawal‑like symptoms such as insomnia, anxiety, agitation, or return of hallucinations and delusions. In most cases, if discontinuation is appropriate, the doctor will recommend a gradual dose reduction while monitoring for symptom recurrence. Any decision to stop or change the dose must be made in consultation with the prescribing clinician.
Alcohol is generally not recommended while taking Sizodon 0.5. Both alcohol and risperidone act on the central nervous system and can increase drowsiness, dizziness, impaired judgment, and reduced coordination, which may raise the risk of falls, accidents, or other safety concerns. Alcohol may also worsen underlying psychiatric symptoms and interfere with treatment adherence. Patients should discuss alcohol use with their doctor, who may advise complete avoidance or provide specific guidance based on individual risk factors.
Use of Sizodon 0.5 in elderly patients requires particular caution. Older adults are more susceptible to side effects such as sedation, orthostatic hypotension, extrapyramidal symptoms, and metabolic changes, and they may have coexisting heart, liver, or kidney disease. Antipsychotics, including risperidone, have been associated with an increased risk of stroke and death in elderly patients with dementia‑related psychosis; they are not approved for this specific use in many regulatory settings. Any use in older adults should be carefully justified, started at low doses, and closely monitored by a physician experienced in geriatric psychopharmacology.
Before starting Sizodon 0.5, inform your doctor about your full medical history, including any heart disease, history of stroke or transient ischaemic attack, seizures, diabetes or pre‑diabetes, high cholesterol or triglycerides, low blood pressure or fainting episodes, Parkinson’s disease, dementia, liver or kidney problems, hormonal or prolactin‑related issues, and any history of blood clots. Provide a complete list of all medicines you are taking, including prescription drugs, over‑the‑counter products, herbal supplements, and recreational substances. Also mention any past adverse reactions to antipsychotics or other psychiatric medicines, and if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding.
If you miss a dose of Sizodon 0.5, follow the instructions given by your doctor or those in the package leaflet. In general, if it is only been a short time since the missed dose, you may be advised to take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, you may be instructed to skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one, as this may increase the risk of side effects. If you frequently forget doses, discuss this with your doctor so that strategies can be put in place to improve adherence.
