Spasmodart Tablet is primarily used for short-term relief of painful spasmodic conditions involving smooth muscles, such as abdominal cramps, intestinal colic, biliary colic, renal colic, and dysmenorrhoea (painful menstrual periods). It combines an antispasmodic (dicyclomine) with anti-inflammatory and analgesic agents (diclofenac and paracetamol) to reduce muscle spasm, inflammation, and pain. It is intended for symptomatic relief and should be used under medical supervision.
Spasmodart Tablet works through three complementary mechanisms. Dicyclomine acts as an anticholinergic antispasmodic, relaxing smooth muscles of the gastrointestinal and genitourinary tracts and thereby reducing cramping. Diclofenac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that inhibits cyclo-oxygenase (COX) enzymes, decreasing prostaglandin synthesis and thus reducing inflammation and pain. Paracetamol provides additional central analgesic and antipyretic effects. Together, these actions help relieve spasmodic pain and associated discomfort.
Yes, Spasmodart Tablet is often prescribed for dysmenorrhoea, or painful menstrual cramps, when uterine muscle spasm and inflammatory mediators contribute to pain. The antispasmodic component helps relax uterine smooth muscle, while diclofenac and paracetamol reduce pain and inflammation. However, its use should be individualized, and women with heavy bleeding, known gynecological disorders, or other comorbidities should consult a gynecologist before using this medicine.
Spasmodart Tablet is not intended for long-term or continuous use. Prolonged use of diclofenac and paracetamol can increase the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding, kidney impairment, liver toxicity, and cardiovascular events, while chronic use of anticholinergics like dicyclomine may cause persistent dry mouth, constipation, urinary retention, and other adverse effects. If pain or spasms persist or recur frequently, the underlying cause should be evaluated rather than relying on ongoing symptomatic treatment.
Concomitant use of Spasmodart Tablet with other NSAIDs (such as ibuprofen, naproxen, or additional diclofenac) or paracetamol-containing products is generally not recommended, as it may increase the risk of gastrointestinal, renal, hepatic, and cardiovascular adverse effects, as well as paracetamol overdose. If additional pain control is needed, you should consult your doctor, who can assess total analgesic exposure and suggest a safe regimen or alternative therapy.
Commonly reported side effects include nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort, indigestion, heartburn, constipation, dry mouth, dizziness, and headache. Some patients may experience blurred vision, mild drowsiness, or a feeling of dryness in the eyes due to the anticholinergic component. NSAID-related effects such as gastritis or mild elevation of liver enzymes can occur. Most side effects are dose- and duration-dependent and often improve after discontinuation, but any severe or persistent symptoms should be reported to a healthcare professional.
Spasmodart Tablet should generally be avoided in individuals with a history of hypersensitivity to diclofenac, dicyclomine, paracetamol, other NSAIDs, or anticholinergic agents; those with active or recurrent peptic ulcer disease or gastrointestinal bleeding; severe liver or kidney impairment; uncontrolled heart failure; known NSAID-induced asthma or severe bronchospasm; and certain conditions where anticholinergics are contraindicated, such as untreated narrow-angle glaucoma, myasthenia gravis, or significant urinary retention. A doctor should review your full medical history before prescribing this medicine.
Use of Spasmodart Tablet during pregnancy requires careful medical assessment. Diclofenac, particularly in the third trimester, is generally avoided because NSAIDs can affect fetal circulation (including premature closure of the ductus arteriosus) and may impair labor. Dicyclomine and paracetamol also require risk–benefit evaluation. Pregnant women should not self-medicate with Spasmodart Tablet; any use must be based on a physician’s judgment, considering gestational age, symptom severity, and safer alternatives.
Components of Spasmodart Tablet may pass into breast milk to varying degrees. While paracetamol is generally considered compatible with breastfeeding at usual doses, diclofenac and dicyclomine require caution. Anticholinergics may theoretically affect the infant’s feeding or cause irritability, and NSAIDs may have gastrointestinal effects. Therefore, Spasmodart Tablet should be used in breastfeeding women only if clearly needed and prescribed by a doctor, with close monitoring of the infant for any unusual symptoms.
If you miss a scheduled dose of Spasmodart Tablet and still have symptoms, take the missed dose as soon as you remember, provided it is not too close to the time of your next planned dose. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one, as this may increase the risk of side effects. Because this medicine is often prescribed on an as-needed basis for pain or spasms, follow the dosing instructions given by your prescriber.
Spasmodart Tablet may cause dizziness, blurred vision, or drowsiness in some individuals, mainly due to its anticholinergic component and, less commonly, due to systemic effects of the analgesics. If you experience any of these symptoms after taking the tablet, you should avoid driving, operating machinery, or performing tasks that require full alertness and clear vision until you know how the medicine affects you. If such symptoms persist or are severe, consult your doctor.
