How CODISTAR DX SYRUP 100 ML Works

• Dextromethorphan acts on the cough centre in the medulla of the brain and raises the threshold at which coughing is triggered. This reduces how often and how hard a person coughs. It starts working within about 15 to 30 minutes and lasts about 6 hours. It has no pain-relieving action.
• Chlorpheniramine blocks H1 histamine receptors, reducing allergic swelling and irritation of the airway lining, sneezing and runny nose. It also causes some drowsiness.

Drowsiness, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, dry nose and throat, blurred vision, nausea, vomiting, constipation or diarrhoea, and tiredness can occur. Children in particular may become restless, excitable or irritable rather than drowsy. Difficulty passing urine, palpitations, a fast or slow heartbeat, sensitivity to sunlight and rash have also been reported. Allergic reactions, including hives, swelling and, rarely, anaphylaxis, need emergency care. Chlorpheniramine has rarely been linked to blood disorders, so unexplained bruising, bleeding, fever or sore throat should be reported. Taking too much can cause confusion, hallucinations, fits and slowed breathing, and needs urgent medical help.

• If you miss a dose of CODISTAR DX SYRUP, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.

• Store the bottle with the cap tightly closed in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, and follow the storage instruction printed on the current Mankind pack. Keep it out of the reach of children, and do not use it after the expiry date.

• Never give it to a child under 2 years of age
• Measure each dose with the device provided
• Do not use it for a wet cough that brings up phlegm
• Avoid alcohol and other sedating medicines
• Do not drive if drowsy
• See a doctor if the cough lasts more than 10 days

• No specific food interaction is known. Alcohol should be avoided because it increases drowsiness. Warm fluids can soothe an irritated throat.
