How COREX DX SYRUP 100 ML Works

• Dextromethorphan acts on the cough centre in the medulla, the part of the brainstem that controls coughing. It raises the threshold at which coughing is triggered, so bouts come less often and with less force. Pfizer's prescribing information notes its cough-suppressing strength is close to that of codeine, but it has no pain-relieving or addictive properties.
• Chlorpheniramine blocks histamine H1 receptors in the nose and throat. This reduces the allergic swelling and irritation of the airway lining that keeps a dry cough going.

Drowsiness, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, nausea, constipation and blurred vision are the effects most often linked with chlorpheniramine. Some people feel restless, irritable or excitable instead, especially children. Chlorpheniramine can make it harder to pass urine, particularly in men with an enlarged prostate. It can also affect the heart rhythm, causing palpitations. Rare effects include blood disorders, skin sensitivity to sunlight and allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis. Taking too much can cause severe drowsiness, confusion, hallucinations, fits and slowed breathing. This needs emergency care.

• If you miss a dose of Corex DX Syrup, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.

• Store at a temperature not exceeding 30°C and replace the cap securely after use. Keep the bottle out of the reach of children, and do not use it after the expiry date.

• Measure each dose with a marked cup or oral syringe
• Do not give it to children under two years
• Avoid alcohol and sleeping tablets while taking it
• Do not drive if it causes drowsiness
• Do not combine it with other cough or cold medicines without advice
• See a doctor if the cough lasts more than 10 days or comes with fever

• Corex DX can be taken with or without food. Alcohol should be avoided because it adds to drowsiness.
• The syrup contains sugar and sorbitol, which people with diabetes should mention to their doctor.
