• Budesonide is an inhaled corticosteroid that reduces inflammation in the airway lining by suppressing the release of inflammatory substances. This decreases swelling and mucus production in the airways over time, helping to prevent flare-ups.
• Formoterol is a long-acting beta-2 agonist that relaxes the smooth muscle around the airways, keeping them open for an extended period. Combining an anti-inflammatory corticosteroid with a long-acting bronchodilator addresses both the underlying airway inflammation and the airway narrowing that cause asthma and COPD symptoms.

Sore throat, hoarseness of voice, oral thrush (a fungal infection of the mouth), headache and cough are the most commonly reported effects. Tremor, palpitations, an increased heart rate and restlessness have also been reported. A rare but serious effect called paradoxical bronchospasm, where breathing suddenly worsens just after use, needs immediate medical attention. Long-term use of inhaled corticosteroids has been associated with adrenal suppression, raised blood glucose, cataracts, glaucoma and reduced bone density, so regular monitoring is advised.
