Common: headache, flushing, indigestion or heartburn, nasal congestion (stuffy nose), back pain, and muscle aches. These are usually mild and temporary. Others: dizziness and mild changes in vision. Serious (seek medical attention): a painful or prolonged erection lasting more than 4 hours (priapism) — a medical emergency; sudden loss of vision in one or both eyes; sudden decrease or loss of hearing, sometimes with ringing in the ears or dizziness; chest pain during sex (stop and seek help — do not take nitrates); or signs of a serious allergic reaction. Report these promptly.
For on-demand use, take one tablet with water about 30 minutes to 1 hour before sexual activity — its effect can last for up to around 36 hours, so exact timing is flexible. Do not take more than one dose in 24 hours. Take it only as your doctor has directed.
Never take it with nitrate medicines (used for chest pain/angina) or "poppers" (amyl nitrite) — the combination can cause a dangerous, potentially fatal drop in blood pressure. Tell your doctor about all your medicines, especially alpha-blockers and other blood-pressure medicines.
No. You should not drink alcohol while taking tadalafil. Alcohol can lower your blood pressure further and increase the chance of dizziness, fainting, and headache.
Men with significant heart disease, recent heart attack or stroke, very low or uncontrolled blood pressure, or severe liver or kidney problems should avoid it or use it only under close medical supervision. It is not for use by women or anyone under 18. Tell your doctor about all your medical conditions before starting.
An erection lasting more than 4 hours (priapism) needs urgent medical attention to prevent permanent damage. Seek emergency care immediately if this happens.
