Less common but more serious side effects can include allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling), rapid heartbeat, chest pain, muscle cramps, and changes in blood pressure. If any of these occur, discontinue use and consult your doctor immediately. This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. Report any unusual symptoms to your healthcare provider.

Levolin is a brand name that contains Levosalbutamol, which is an active ingredient.
No, Levolin Plus JR Syrup 60 ml is not an addictive medicine.
Levolin syrup for kids is used to relieve and prevent symptoms of reversible airway obstruction, such as wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and cough associated with asthma, bronchospasm, or other obstructive airway conditions. It contains levosalbutamol, a bronchodilator that relaxes the muscles in the airways, allowing them to open and making it easier for the child to breathe.
Levolin syrup contains levosalbutamol, which is a selective beta-2 adrenergic receptor agonist. When taken, it stimulates beta-2 receptors in the bronchial smooth muscle, causing relaxation of these muscles and dilation of the airways. This reduces airway resistance and improves airflow, leading to relief from wheezing and breathlessness. The effect usually begins within minutes and can last for several hours, depending on the individual child and the specific formulation.
Levolin syrup should not be given to a child without medical supervision. It is a prescription medicine, and inappropriate use can mask worsening asthma, cause side effects, or interact with other medications. A pediatrician should first evaluate the child’s symptoms, confirm the diagnosis, and decide whether Levolin syrup is appropriate, as well as determine the correct dosing schedule based on age, weight, and clinical condition.
Common side effects of Levolin syrup in children may include fine tremors (especially of the hands), nervousness, restlessness, headache, rapid heartbeat (tachycardia), palpitations, mild chest discomfort, and sometimes irritability or difficulty sleeping. Some children may also experience nausea or muscle cramps. These effects are usually mild and transient. If side effects are severe, persistent, or worrying, the caregiver should contact the child’s doctor promptly.
Levolin syrup is primarily considered a reliever or rescue medicine. It is used to quickly relieve acute symptoms of bronchospasm, such as sudden wheezing or breathlessness. It does not address the underlying airway inflammation that characterizes chronic asthma. For long-term control, children often require maintenance therapy, such as inhaled corticosteroids or other controller medications. The pediatrician will decide how Levolin syrup fits into the child’s overall asthma action plan.
If your child’s usual prescribed dose of Levolin syrup does not provide adequate relief, do not increase the dose or frequency on your own. This may indicate that the child’s asthma or airway disease is not well controlled or is worsening. Follow the written asthma or wheeze action plan if you have one, and seek urgent medical advice. If the child has severe difficulty breathing, is unable to speak in full sentences, has bluish lips or face, or appears very drowsy, seek emergency medical care immediately.
Levolin syrup may be used in young children or infants only under the guidance of a pediatrician. The safety and appropriateness depend on the child’s age, weight, diagnosis, and overall health. In very young children, inhaled bronchodilators delivered via nebulizer or spacer with mask are often preferred. The doctor will decide whether syrup, nebulized solution, or inhaler is most suitable and will provide specific instructions for use and monitoring.
Levolin syrup is often used alongside other asthma medications, such as inhaled corticosteroids, leukotriene receptor antagonists, or inhaled long-acting bronchodilators, as part of a comprehensive treatment plan. However, combining multiple bronchodilators or using overlapping products without medical supervision can increase the risk of side effects like tachycardia and tremor. Always inform the doctor about all medicines, inhalers, syrups, and over-the-counter products your child is taking so that therapy can be coordinated safely.
Use an accurate measuring device to give the exact volume prescribed. Do not exceed the prescribed frequency or duration. Inform the doctor if your child has heart disease, arrhythmias, high blood pressure, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, or a history of low potassium levels. Monitor for side effects such as marked restlessness, severe tremor, chest pain, or significant palpitations. Keep a record of how often Levolin is needed; increasing use may signal poor asthma control and should be discussed with the pediatrician.
Levolin syrup is generally intended for intermittent, symptom-driven use rather than continuous long-term daily use. Frequent or prolonged reliance on short-acting bronchodilators alone is not recommended for asthma management, as it may mask worsening inflammation and increase the risk of severe exacerbations. If a child requires Levolin syrup regularly or more often than advised in their action plan, the treatment regimen should be reviewed. Long-term safety depends on appropriate dosing, monitoring, and concurrent use of suitable controller therapy when indicated.
