How OKACET L TABLET 10'S Works

• During an allergic reaction, mast cells release histamine, which attaches to H1 receptors in the nose, eyes and skin. This causes sneezing, a runny nose, itching, redness and swelling.
• Levocetirizine is a selective blocker of H1 receptors outside the brain. It stops histamine from binding, so these symptoms settle. Less of it enters the brain than older antihistamines, so it causes less drowsiness, although some people still feel sleepy.

The most commonly reported effects are sleepiness, headache, dry mouth and tiredness. Abdominal pain and constipation can also occur. Levocetirizine can make it harder to pass urine, particularly in men with an enlarged prostate. It can occasionally cause dizziness, fainting or tremor. Rare effects include mood or behaviour changes such as agitation, aggression, low mood, sleep problems, hallucinations and suicidal thoughts. Seizures, and allergic reactions including anaphylaxis, are also rare. Any of these needs prompt medical attention.

• Store the strip in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, and follow the storage instruction printed on the current Cipla pack. Keep it out of the reach of children, and do not use it after the expiry date.

• Take it in the evening if it causes drowsiness
• Avoid alcohol while taking it
• Do not drive when feeling sleepy or dizzy
• Do not take other antihistamines or cold remedies containing them without advice
• Tell the doctor about kidney disease, epilepsy or difficulty passing urine
• Tell the allergy clinic about it before a skin allergy test
• Seek emergency help for swelling of the lips, tongue or throat

• Okacet L can be taken with or without food. Alcohol should be avoided, as it adds to drowsiness.
