Sompraz D 40mg Capsule is used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), a condition where stomach acid flows back into the food pipe, causing heartburn and acidity. It works by reducing the production of stomach acid and improving the emptying of the stomach.
Sompraz D 40mg Capsule is a combination of two medicines, Domperidone and Esomeprazole. Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that reduces the amount of acid in the stomach. Domperidone is a prokinetic that helps food to move more quickly through the stomach by increasing the movement of the stomach and intestines.
Common side effects of Sompraz D 40mg Capsule include nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea, constipation, and headache. Inform your doctor if any of these side effects persist or worsen.
Sompraz D 40mg Capsule is usually taken before food. Follow your doctor's instructions and consult them about taking it with or without food.
Long-term use of Sompraz D 40mg Capsule may carry some risks, such as weakened bones, vitamin B12 deficiency, and an increased risk of infection. Use it only as prescribed by your doctor.
Yes, Sompraz D 40mg Capsule can interact with certain medications. Tell your doctor about all the medicines you are taking, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs, and herbal products.
If you miss a dose of Sompraz D 40mg Capsule, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
Consult your doctor before taking Sompraz D 40mg Capsule during pregnancy. They will be able to tell you if it is safe for you.
Consult your doctor before taking Sompraz D 40mg Capsule during breastfeeding. They will be able to tell you if it is safe for you.

Weight gain is not a common side effect of Sompraz D 40mg Capsule. However, some people may experience an increase in appetite, which can lead to weight gain.
Drinking alcohol while taking Sompraz D 40mg Capsule may increase the risk of side effects. Consult your doctor about whether it is safe to drink alcohol.
Yes, some people may experience bloating while taking Sompraz D 40mg Capsule. Talk to your doctor if this becomes a problem.
Sompraz D 40mg Capsule should be swallowed whole. Do not crush or chew it.
Yes, there are several alternatives to Sompraz D 40mg Capsule available. Talk to your doctor about the best option for you. Other brands like Omez D are also available.
Sompraz D 40 is generally taken before food, most commonly about 30 minutes before breakfast, so that it can reduce acid secretion and improve stomach emptying around the time you eat. Some patients may be advised to take it before both breakfast and the evening meal, but the exact schedule must be decided by your doctor. Do not change the timing without medical advice.
Sompraz D 40 is usually more effective when taken before meals rather than after, because esomeprazole works best when the acid pumps are activated by upcoming food and domperidone is more useful before a meal. Taking it after food or randomly may reduce its benefit. Bedtime use may be suggested in some cases, but only if your doctor specifically recommends that timing for your symptoms.
The number of daily doses depends on your condition and your doctor’s prescription. Many patients are prescribed Sompraz D 40 once daily before breakfast, while others with more severe or persistent symptoms may be told to take it more than once a day. You should strictly follow the dosing schedule written on your prescription and not increase or decrease the frequency on your own.
If you miss a dose of Sompraz D 40, take it as soon as you remember, preferably before a meal. If it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular timing. Do not take two doses together to make up for the missed one, as this may increase the risk of side effects. If you frequently forget doses, speak to your doctor about strategies to improve adherence.
Use of Sompraz D 40 during pregnancy should only be on the advice of a doctor who has weighed the potential benefits against the possible risks to the mother and baby. Esomeprazole and domperidone have limited safety data in pregnancy, and domperidone in particular may have concerns related to heart rhythm. Do not start or continue Sompraz D 40 in pregnancy without discussing it with your obstetrician or treating physician.
Both esomeprazole and domperidone may pass into breast milk to some extent. Domperidone can also affect prolactin levels, which may influence milk production. Because of these factors, Sompraz D 40 should be used with caution in breastfeeding women and only if your doctor believes the benefits outweigh the risks. Inform your doctor that you are breastfeeding before starting this medicine.
People with liver or kidney impairment need special caution when using Sompraz D 40. Domperidone is mainly cleared by the liver and kidneys, and its levels can rise in patients with reduced function, increasing the risk of side effects, including heart rhythm disturbances. Esomeprazole is also metabolized in the liver. If you have any history of liver disease, jaundice, hepatitis, or chronic kidney disease, your doctor may adjust the dose, change the timing, or choose an alternative medicine. Never take Sompraz D 40 without medical supervision if you have liver or kidney problems.
Sompraz D 40 does not usually cause significant drowsiness, but some people may experience dizziness, headache, or visual disturbances. Until you know how the medicine affects you, avoid driving, operating heavy machinery, or performing tasks that require full alertness. If you feel dizzy or unwell after taking it, do not drive and inform your doctor.
Alcohol itself can irritate the stomach lining, worsen acidity, and reduce the benefit of treatment. It may also increase the risk of side effects like dizziness or stomach discomfort. While there is no standard recommendation that a small amount of alcohol is strictly prohibited for everyone, it is generally advisable to limit or avoid alcohol while taking Sompraz D 40, especially if you have liver disease, severe reflux, or are on other interacting medicines. Discuss alcohol use with your doctor for personalized advice.
You should not take Sompraz D 40 if you are allergic to esomeprazole, other proton pump inhibitors (such as omeprazole, pantoprazole, rabeprazole, or lansoprazole), domperidone, or any of the inactive ingredients in the formulation. Signs of allergy can include rash, itching, swelling of the face or throat, severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing. If you have had any allergic reaction to acid-suppressing medicines or domperidone in the past, inform your doctor before starting Sompraz D 40.
Do not stop Sompraz D 40 abruptly without consulting your doctor, especially if you have been taking it for a long time. Sudden discontinuation of proton pump inhibitors can sometimes lead to rebound acid hypersecretion, where symptoms of acidity temporarily worsen. Your doctor may advise a gradual reduction in dose or a change in timing before stopping, depending on your condition and response to treatment.
