How ALEX SYRUP 100 ML Works

• Dextromethorphan acts on the cough centre in the brain, raising the threshold for triggering the cough reflex. This reduces the frequency and intensity of coughing, particularly for a dry, hacking cough that is not bringing up mucus.
• Chlorpheniramine maleate blocks histamine H1 receptors. Histamine is released during an allergic reaction and produces sneezing, a runny nose and itching, so blocking its action settles these symptoms; the same blocking action commonly causes drowsiness. Phenylephrine narrows the blood vessels lining the nose, reducing the swelling that blocks the airway and making it easier to breathe through the nose.

Drowsiness, dizziness, headache and dry mouth are commonly reported, along with nausea, stomach upset and blurred vision in some patients. Phenylephrine can raise heart rate and blood pressure in some people. A widespread skin rash, marked breathing difficulty, or a noticeable change in heart rate are uncommon but need immediate medical attention.

• If you miss a dose of Alex Syrup, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.

• Store the bottle in its original pack, tightly closed, out of the reach of children and pets. Keep it at room temperature. Do not use the syrup after the expiry date printed on the label.

• Shake the bottle well before each use
• Use the calibrated measuring cup or spoon provided, not a household spoon
• Avoid other cough, cold or allergy products containing similar ingredients while taking this syrup
• Avoid driving or operating machinery until the effect of the medicine is known
• Avoid alcohol while taking this syrup
• Seek medical advice if cough persists for more than a few days or is accompanied by fever, chest pain or breathing difficulty

• Alex Syrup can be taken with or without food, though taking it with food can help if it causes stomach upset.
• Alcohol adds to the drowsiness caused by chlorpheniramine and is best avoided while taking this syrup.
