Common: drowsiness or sleepiness, dry mouth, dizziness, and mild nausea. Chlorpheniramine may cause blurred vision or constipation, and phenylephrine can sometimes cause a mild rise in blood pressure, headache, restlessness, or difficulty sleeping. Serious (seek medical attention): fast or irregular heartbeat, marked rise in blood pressure, severe dizziness, confusion or hallucinations, difficulty passing urine, or signs of an allergic reaction (rash, swelling of the face/lips, difficulty breathing). Avoid in people using MAO-inhibitor antidepressants, as the combination can dangerously raise blood pressure.
Take it as directed by your doctor or the label. A typical adult dose is 5 ml (one teaspoon) every 4–6 hours, not exceeding the daily limit on the label. Use the measuring cup or spoon provided — not a household spoon. It can be taken with or without food.
Only as advised by a doctor and strictly by age/weight. It is not recommended for children under 2 years, and cough-cold combinations should be used cautiously in young children. Never use it to make a child sleepy. Check the exact dose with your doctor.
Yes, the chlorpheniramine in it commonly causes drowsiness. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or other activities needing alertness until you know how it affects you, and avoid alcohol and other sedating medicines while taking it.
Tell your doctor if you have high blood pressure, heart disease, an overactive thyroid, diabetes, glaucoma, an enlarged prostate/difficulty urinating, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Also avoid other cold/cough products containing the same ingredients to prevent doubling up.
Use it only for short-term symptom relief, usually a few days. If your cough or cold lasts more than about a week, worsens, or is accompanied by high fever, breathing difficulty, or thick coloured phlegm, stop and see a doctor.
