How LANTUS SOLOSTAR 3 ML Works

• Insulin binds to insulin receptors on cells and supports glucose uptake from the blood into tissues. It also reduces glucose release by the liver. Insulin glargine forms microprecipitates after injection under the skin, from which insulin is released gradually. This produces a prolonged basal effect.

Low blood glucose is the most important side effect and can cause sweating, shakiness, hunger, confusion, dizziness or fainting. Severe hypoglycaemia can cause seizure or loss of consciousness. Injection-site redness, pain or itching, changes in the fat under the skin, weight gain and allergic reactions can also occur. Urgent care is needed for severe allergy or unconsciousness.

• The Indian product insert directs unopened Lantus to be stored in a refrigerator at 2 to 8 degrees C and protected from light. Do not freeze or place next to a freezer compartment. Follow the current Indian leaflet for in-use pen storage and discard timing, which can differ by presentation and revision.

• Confirm the insulin name and strength before each use.
• Use a new needle and never share the pen.
• Rotate injection sites and inspect the skin regularly.
• Carry a source of fast-acting glucose as directed in the personal diabetes plan.
• Keep an unopened pen refrigerated; follow the leaflet for in-use storage limits.
• Dispose of used needles in a sharps container.

• Meals and activity affect insulin needs and glucose levels. Meal planning should follow the diabetes care plan. Alcohol can increase the risk of low blood glucose and may delay its warning signs; discuss alcohol with the diabetes clinician.
