About MONTINA L TABLET 10'S

  • Montina L Tablet 10's is a prescription combination medicine marketed in India by Aristo Pharmaceuticals Private Limited. Each tablet contains levocetirizine 5 mg and montelukast 10 mg.
  • Levocetirizine is a second-generation antihistamine that blocks histamine, the chemical the body releases during an allergic reaction, and is less likely to cause drowsiness than older antihistamines. Montelukast is a leukotriene receptor antagonist that blocks leukotrienes, chemicals that drive airway inflammation and narrowing. Together, the combination is used for allergic rhinitis, chronic hives (urticaria), and as part of asthma management.

Uses of MONTINA L TABLET 10'S

  • Allergic rhinitis, including sneezing, runny nose, itching and watery eyes
  • Chronic urticaria (hives)
  • Preventive, ongoing management of asthma, alongside other prescribed asthma treatment

How MONTINA L TABLET 10'S Works

  • Montelukast blocks the receptors that leukotrienes act on. Leukotrienes are released during an allergic or asthmatic response and cause airway inflammation, narrowing and mucus production. Blocking their action reduces this inflammation and helps keep the airway open.
  • Levocetirizine blocks histamine H1 receptors. Histamine is released during an allergic reaction and causes sneezing, a runny nose, itching and watery eyes, so blocking its action settles these symptoms.

Side Effects of MONTINA L TABLET 10'SArrow

Nausea, abdominal pain, headache, dizziness, drowsiness, tiredness and dry mouth are commonly reported. Increased appetite, weight gain, restlessness and sleep disturbance have also been reported. Montelukast has been associated with neuropsychiatric effects, including agitation, aggression, hallucinations, depression and, rarely, suicidal thoughts or behaviour, and carries a boxed warning for this in some countries. Any new or worsening mood or behaviour change should be reported to the prescriber promptly. Yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, muscle weakness, or a widespread rash with facial swelling or breathing difficulty need urgent medical attention.

  • Nausea
  • Abdominal pain

Dosage of MONTINA L TABLET 10'SArrow

  • The amount and duration of treatment depend on the condition being treated and the individual's age, and must be decided by the prescriber. The amount written on the current prescription should be followed, and treatment should not be stopped early even if symptoms improve, without checking with the prescriber first.
  • This medicine is generally used as ongoing, preventive treatment and it is not a rescue medicine for a sudden asthma attack.

What if I miss my dose of MONTINA L TABLET 10'S?Arrow

  • If you miss a dose of MONTINA L TABLET, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.

How to store MONTINA L TABLET 10'S?Arrow

  • Store the tablets in their original pack, out of the reach of children and pets. Keep them at the temperature stated on the current Aristo pack. Do not use the tablets after the expiry date printed on the pack.

Benefits of MONTINA L TABLET 10'SArrow

  • Combining an antihistamine with a leukotriene receptor antagonist addresses both the immediate histamine-driven symptoms of an allergy and the ongoing airway inflammation that leukotrienes drive, which is useful for allergic rhinitis alongside asthma or chronic hives.
  • Levocetirizine is a second-generation antihistamine, so it is generally less sedating than older antihistamines, which can matter for daytime use.

How to use MONTINA L TABLET 10'SArrow

  • Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the tablet.
  • It can be taken with or without food, and taking it at a similar time each day, often in the evening, helps keep a steady level of the medicine in the body.

Quick Tips for MONTINA L TABLET 10'SArrow

  • Take the tablet at a similar time each day, as directed by the prescriber
  • This medicine is a preventive treatment, not a rescue medicine for a sudden asthma attack
  • Continue any separate reliever inhaler or preventer medicine exactly as prescribed
  • Watch for mood or behaviour changes, especially in children, and report them to the prescriber promptly
  • Avoid driving or operating machinery until the effect of the medicine is known
  • Do not stop this medicine suddenly without checking with the prescriber, even if symptoms improve

  • Montina L can be taken with or without food.
  • Alcohol adds to the drowsiness that levocetirizine can cause and is best limited while taking this medicine.

FAQs

What is Montina L Tablet used for?Arrow

Montina L is used for allergic rhinitis, chronic hives, and as part of ongoing asthma management, combining an antihistamine with a leukotriene receptor antagonist.

Can Montina L Tablet be used for a sudden asthma attack?Arrow

No. It is a preventive, ongoing treatment, not a rescue medicine. A fast-acting reliever inhaler prescribed by a doctor should be used for sudden breathing difficulty.

Can Montina L Tablet affect mood or behaviour?Arrow

Yes. Montelukast has been associated with agitation, aggression, hallucinations, depression and, rarely, suicidal thoughts. Any new or worsening mood or behaviour change should be reported to the prescriber promptly.

Does Montina L Tablet cause drowsiness?Arrow

It can, though levocetirizine is generally less sedating than older antihistamines. Driving or operating machinery should be avoided until the effect on alertness is known.

Yes. Montina L Tablet 10's is available for purchase on Medkart, subject to current stock and prescription requirements. Patients can check the listed pack, price and delivery availability before ordering.
