Versidep 10 is used for the short‑term treatment of certain depressive states that are accompanied by anxiety, tension, low motivation, and reduced activity. It is often prescribed when symptoms are mild to moderate and may be associated with psychosomatic complaints, such as bodily symptoms without clear organic cause. It is not a first‑line treatment for severe major depression or psychotic disorders and should only be used under medical supervision.
Versidep 10 contains flupentixol and melitracen. Flupentixol is a typical antipsychotic that, at low doses, has activating and anxiolytic effects by blocking certain dopamine receptors in the brain. Melitracen is a tricyclic antidepressant that increases the levels of serotonin and noradrenaline, neurotransmitters involved in mood regulation. The combined effect is intended to improve mood, reduce anxiety, and increase mental and physical activity in people with depressive states.
Some individuals may notice improvement in anxiety, sleep, or energy within a few days, but full antidepressant effects usually take 1 to 3 weeks or longer. Response time varies between patients. It is important to continue taking the medicine as prescribed and not to stop early, even if you do not feel better immediately. Your doctor will review your response regularly and decide whether to continue, adjust, or stop treatment.
Versidep 10 is generally not recommended for children or adolescents because safety and efficacy data in this age group are limited. The combination of a typical antipsychotic and a tricyclic antidepressant carries specific risks, including effects on heart rhythm, blood pressure, and behaviour. Use in younger patients should only occur under the guidance of a specialist psychiatrist with careful monitoring.
Common side effects include dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision, increased sweating, dizziness, drowsiness or insomnia, mild tremor, restlessness, and weight changes. Some people may experience palpitations, changes in blood pressure, or gastrointestinal discomfort such as nausea. Most side effects are mild to moderate and may lessen as the body adjusts. However, any persistent, severe, or troubling symptoms should be discussed with your doctor.
Serious but less common risks include heart rhythm disturbances (such as QT prolongation), significant changes in blood pressure, seizures, severe extrapyramidal symptoms (muscle stiffness, involuntary movements, or marked restlessness), and allergic reactions. There is also a risk of worsening depression, emergence of suicidal thoughts, or switch to mania in people with bipolar disorder. Sudden severe chest pain, fainting, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, or new uncontrolled movements require urgent medical attention.
Alcohol should generally be avoided while taking Versidep 10. Both alcohol and the medicine act on the central nervous system and can increase drowsiness, impair coordination, and reduce judgment. This combination may also worsen mood symptoms and increase the risk of accidents, particularly when driving or operating machinery. If you consume alcohol, discuss this with your doctor so that risks can be assessed and monitored.
Versidep 10 is not considered a classic addictive drug in the way that benzodiazepines or opioids are. However, abrupt discontinuation after prolonged use can lead to withdrawal‑like symptoms such as nausea, headache, sleep disturbances, irritability, or a rapid return of depressive and anxiety symptoms. For this reason, the dose should be reduced gradually under medical supervision rather than stopped suddenly.
Use of Versidep 10 during pregnancy or breastfeeding is generally not recommended unless the potential benefit clearly outweighs the potential risks. Both flupentixol and tricyclic antidepressants can cross the placenta and are excreted in breast milk. Potential concerns include effects on the newborn’s adaptation after birth, sedation, feeding difficulties, and, rarely, withdrawal‑like symptoms. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not start or stop this medicine without consulting their doctor.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. If it is close to the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one, as this may increase the risk of side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, or heart rhythm changes. If you frequently forget doses, speak with your doctor or pharmacist about strategies to improve adherence.
Yes. Versidep 10 can cause drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, or reduced concentration in some people, especially when starting treatment or after dose changes. These effects can impair your ability to drive, use tools, or operate machinery safely. You should avoid such activities until you know how the medicine affects you. If you experience persistent sedation or cognitive slowing, inform your doctor, as dose adjustment or an alternative treatment may be needed.
