General precautions and monitoring
Medical supervision requiredGluconorm Z 80 should be taken only under the supervision of a registered medical practitioner, with individualized assessment of benefits and risks.
Gluconorm Z 80 Tablet is primarily used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus by helping to lower blood sugar levels.
Take Gluconorm Z 80 Tablet as prescribed by your doctor, usually once or twice daily with meals. Do not crush or chew the tablet.
Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and loss of appetite. Consult your doctor if these persist or worsen.
It is generally advised to avoid alcohol while taking Gluconorm Z 80 Tablet as it can increase the risk of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose. In that case, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.
Gluconorm Z 80 Tablet is generally not recommended during pregnancy. Consult your doctor for safer alternatives.
Store Gluconorm Z 80 Tablet at room temperature, away from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep it out of reach of children.
Gluconorm Z 80 Tablet typically contains Gliclazide as the active ingredient, along with other inactive ingredients.
Yes, Gluconorm Z 80 Tablet can cause hypoglycemia, especially if you skip meals, exercise excessively, or take it with other diabetes medications. Monitor your blood sugar levels regularly.
In case of an overdose, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms may include confusion, sweating, rapid heartbeat, and loss of consciousness.
Follow a balanced diet, avoid sugary foods and drinks, and eat regular meals to help manage your blood sugar levels effectively while taking Gluconorm Z 80 Tablet.
Use Gluconorm Z 80 Tablet with caution in patients with kidney problems. Dosage adjustments may be necessary. Consult your doctor.
Gluconorm Z 80 Tablet can interact with several medications. Inform your doctor about all the medications you are currently taking to avoid potential interactions.
The effects of Gluconorm Z 80 Tablet can typically be seen within a few weeks of consistent use. However, individual responses may vary.
Do not stop taking Gluconorm Z 80 Tablet without consulting your doctor, as it can lead to uncontrolled blood sugar levels.
Gluconorm Z 80 is used for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults. It helps control blood glucose levels when diet, exercise, and single‑drug therapy are not sufficient. It is not indicated for type 1 diabetes or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis.
Gluconorm Z 80 contains two active ingredients: gliclazide 80 mg, a sulfonylurea that increases insulin secretion from the pancreas, and metformin hydrochloride 500 mg, a biguanide that reduces hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity.
Gliclazide in Gluconorm Z 80 stimulates functioning pancreatic beta cells to release more insulin, thereby lowering blood glucose. Metformin decreases glucose production in the liver, reduces intestinal absorption of glucose, and enhances peripheral uptake and utilization of glucose. The combination provides complementary control of fasting and post‑meal blood sugar.
Yes. Because it contains gliclazide, Gluconorm Z 80 can cause hypoglycaemia, especially if you skip meals, delay eating, consume inadequate carbohydrates, drink alcohol, or perform strenuous exercise without adjusting food intake. Symptoms include sweating, shakiness, hunger, palpitations, headache, and confusion. Severe hypoglycaemia requires urgent medical attention.
Common side effects include gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort, diarrhoea, and metallic taste, mainly due to metformin. Hypoglycaemia related to gliclazide may also occur. Less commonly, dizziness, headache, skin rash, or changes in liver enzymes may be seen. Any persistent or severe symptom should be discussed with your doctor.
Gluconorm Z 80 should generally not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe kidney impairment, severe liver disease, acute conditions associated with tissue hypoxia (such as shock, severe heart failure, or respiratory failure), heavy alcohol use, or known hypersensitivity to gliclazide, metformin, other sulfonylureas, or any tablet component. It is also usually avoided around major surgery or radiological procedures using iodinated contrast, unless specifically managed by a physician.
Use of Gluconorm Z 80 during pregnancy is generally not recommended because sulfonylureas and metformin cross the placenta and safety data are limited. Insulin is usually preferred for blood glucose control in pregnancy. If you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or suspect you may be pregnant, you should inform your doctor promptly so that your treatment can be reviewed and adjusted.
Both gliclazide and metformin may be excreted in breast milk to some extent, and there is limited safety information in nursing infants. Therefore, Gluconorm Z 80 is generally not recommended during breastfeeding. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and risks and may advise switching to insulin or choosing an alternative feeding method.
Alcohol intake should be limited or avoided while taking Gluconorm Z 80. Alcohol can increase the risk of hypoglycaemia with sulfonylureas and may potentiate the risk of lactic acidosis with metformin, particularly in patients with liver disease, malnutrition, or dehydration. Discuss your alcohol consumption with your healthcare provider for individualized advice.
Yes. Gluconorm Z 80 is intended to be used as an adjunct to lifestyle measures, not as a replacement. A balanced diet, regular physical activity, weight management, and adherence to medical advice remain essential for optimal blood glucose control and reduction of long‑term diabetes complications.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, provided it is not almost time for your next scheduled dose. If it is close to the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one, as this may increase the risk of hypoglycaemia.
Gluconorm Z 80 may be used with other antidiabetic agents, such as insulin or certain oral drugs, when prescribed by a doctor. However, combining therapies can increase the risk of hypoglycaemia or other adverse effects. Your physician will decide on appropriate combinations, monitor your blood glucose, and adjust treatment as needed.
