TENIVA M Tablet is generally well-tolerated, but like all medications, it can cause side effects. Most common side effects are usually mild and temporary, often improving as your body adjusts to the medicine. However, some can be more serious and require medical attention. **Common Side Effects (often mild):** * Nausea and Vomiting * Diarrhea * Abdominal Pain or Discomfort * Loss of Appetite * Metallic Taste in Mouth * Headache * Dizziness * Sore Throat or Nasal Congestion (Nasopharyngitis) **Less Common / Serious Side Effects (Seek immediate medical attention if you experience these):** * **Low Blood Sugar (Hypoglycemia):** Especially if taken with other diabetes medicines like insulin or sulfonylureas. Symptoms include sweating, trembling, confusion, extreme hunger, or dizziness. * **Lactic Acidosis (Rare but Serious):** This is a very rare but life-threatening condition. Symptoms include unusual muscle pain, trouble breathing, severe stomach pain, dizziness, lightheadedness, slow or irregular heartbeat, or feeling cold. * **Vitamin B12 Deficiency:** Long-term use of Metformin can lead to low Vitamin B12 levels, which may cause anemia or nerve problems (tingling, numbness). * **Pancreatitis (Inflammation of the Pancreas):** Rare, but serious. Symptoms include severe and persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting. * Allergic reactions (e.g., skin rash, itching, swelling of face/lips/tongue). * Liver problems (rare). It's important to discuss any side effects with your doctor. Do not stop taking the medication without consulting your healthcare provider.
Allergies
CautionIf you have a known allergy to any component of Teniva M Tablet 20's, inform your doctor before taking it.
TENIVA M Tablet is primarily used to treat Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in adults. It helps control high blood sugar levels when diet and exercise alone are not enough.
TENIVA M Tablet contains two active ingredients: Teneligliptin and Metformin Hydrochloride.
Teneligliptin works by increasing the release of insulin from the pancreas and decreasing hormones that raise blood sugar. Metformin works by reducing glucose production in the liver, decreasing glucose absorption from the intestines, and improving insulin sensitivity in the body.
The dosage is determined by your doctor based on your blood sugar levels and response to treatment. It should be taken as prescribed, usually once or twice daily with meals.
Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, loss of appetite, metallic taste in the mouth (due to Metformin), and headache. These are usually mild and temporary.
While Metformin alone does not typically cause hypoglycemia, combining it with Teneligliptin (which increases insulin release) or other anti-diabetic medications can increase the risk, especially if meals are skipped or exercise is strenuous.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it's almost time for your next dose. In that case, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose.
Inform your doctor about all your medical conditions, especially kidney or liver problems, heart disease, or alcohol consumption. Regular monitoring of blood sugar and kidney function is advised. Avoid excessive alcohol intake.
It is generally advised to limit or avoid alcohol consumption while taking TENIVA M, especially due to the Metformin component. Alcohol can increase the risk of lactic acidosis (a rare but serious side effect) and can also affect blood sugar levels.
Store TENIVA M Tablet at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep it out of reach of children and pets.
TENIVA M Tablet should be used with caution in patients with kidney impairment. Metformin excretion is primarily through the kidneys, and impaired kidney function can increase the risk of lactic acidosis. Your doctor will assess your kidney function before prescribing.
TENIVA M Tablet is generally not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Consult your doctor, as alternative treatments may be considered, or the benefits/risks must be carefully weighed.
An overdose can lead to severe hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) or lactic acidosis (symptoms include severe fatigue, muscle pain, breathing difficulty, stomach pain, coldness, dizziness, and slow heart rate). Seek immediate medical attention if you suspect an overdose.
While taking TENIVA M, it's crucial to maintain a healthy, balanced diet recommended for diabetes management. This typically involves limiting sugary foods, refined carbohydrates, and unhealthy fats. Regular meal times are also important to help regulate blood sugar.
While the active ingredients (Teneligliptin and Metformin) are the same across different brands, excipients (inactive ingredients) might vary. Your doctor might prescribe a specific brand based on availability, cost, or individual patient response. Always consult your doctor before switching brands.
